Yeah the forms are moved up to 9th pour position. This section of rebar is 9&10. Looking at the first pic, if 15 pours is correct, the spire should be just a bit taller than that crane boom.

If that form is for 9 and 10 and 12' per pour, that thing is at about 120 FEET!!!

I noticed at work tonight that the Omaha spire is just under the 'mohawk' of Riverfront Place. I didn't notice how visibile the other supports on the CB side would be. Have they cleared some trees?

Is anyone else surprise to see how high the dirt grading is on for the Omaha side landing?  I thought there was going to be some infill, but wow, it goes up over 10 feet high!  Its high enough that you almost can't see to RFP townhomes from outside the parks service building anymore...

Does anyone know if this is really how high up its going to be, or if this is just them pushing dirt around?

While I know they're going to eventually turn this into a nice park, its almost as if they're segmenting off the trail, instead of bringing everything together.

Perhaps that "dirt" is surcharge to consolidate the underlying soils...perhaps I'll get a good look at this site over the weekend, I love construction sites...

The dirt that is being brought in is the "bed" or base of the bridge as it curves around before it goes airborne.  The new plans have a staircase from the west, or Riverfront Drive so you can climb the stairs onto the bridge as opposed to walking around the curve and up the ramp.  At least that's my understanding of the plans.

I'm sure that initially they will make the "dirt berm" higher/deeper than the final height to get soil compaction. Just like when they make a big pile of dirt for a few months where they are going to build a big store or something.

Cool I wondered if you were going up again today. Don't forget that Qwest Center shot we spaced off last time. I'm officially jealous.

Got them both.  QC was in the shade thought, but I did get a cool picture of the CU soccer stadium!

I can think of a certain place that will have a great vantage point of the bridge.

Late Saturday afternoon I hiked from the parking area under the 1-480 bridge to the foot of Nebraska pier/spire of the Missouri River Pedestrian Bridge

This is the view of the Nebraska & Iowa pier/spire under the 1-480 bridge looking north from the mid-point of the footbridge connecting “Heartland of American Park” to the “Lewis and Clark Landing”. Right side of this photo shows the covered section of the footbridge under I-480.

View of the Nebraska & Iowa pier/spire from “Lewis and Clark Landing” Deck walk.

View of the Nebraska pier/spire across the East end of the National Park service building.

Iowa pier/spire & the temporary dock.

Back to the Nebraska pier/spire

This group of bolts is where the bridge deck will attach on the south side of the Nebraska pier/spire.  They are centered on the line between the 4th & 5th poured section from the ground.

These architecture renderings below may have been seen before in this thread, but posted here to give a visual idea what the bolts above will be attached to.

Yes, nice pics and thanks for posting them.  What I'm curious is about is how they're going to treat those spires once they're built.  I'm guessing from the looks of them they'll probably fix some stainless steel like metalic panels of some sort on the sides for better appearance and protection from the elements.

I took these a couple days ago. Note the scale with the workers in the pics.

See him working up top? Shocked

Most of the pier caps are done on the Council Bluffs approach.

Work continues on the CB side main spire.

Overall look.

Don't get squashed Toni. Wink

I was coming in on 480 today and the land side spire is the same height of the roof at Riverfront Place.

Just joining this conversation... I wanted to throw in some bridge jargon as an FYI to participants:

The pier/spires are actually called pylons.   The bridge has a mainspan and two backspans, with an abutment and landing ramp (thus the mound of dirt on the NE side, and a series of approach spans and an abutment on the IA side.  It is at the abutment that the bridge begins. On the NE side, the backspan is tied-down at the abutment and on the IA side, it is tied down at the first approach span pier.

Hey Brad,

This is a great photograph!  I wish there was a web-cam setup with this view.

Is there any chance you could take a photo like this one every week or so?  Just think you could then take the whole series by the time the bridge is done and play it like a time-lapse movie.  This is a great shot because it shows as much of the bridge as you can get from any one angle.

Kate

there are 3 or 4 of us on this site that photograph it quite often.  Almost once a week.

City Says Pedestrian Bridge Will Be Landmark

http://www.ketv.com/travelgetaways/13585942/detail.html

KETV Story:
Quote:
OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha city officials said on Wednesday that the Missouri River Pedestrian Bridge is on budget and right on schedule.

People who have been near the river lately may have noticed massive twin pylons going up. They will eventually be part of the bridge that links Omaha and Council Bluffs that will create a landmark along the river.

"It's going to be a place to go in Omaha, Neb. When you stop by a gift shop, you're going to buy a postcard that shows the bridge at night or during the day," said Larry Foster of the Omaha Parks and Recreation Department. "It's going to be a wonderful addition downtown."

Quote:
The $22 million bridge will include two 200-foot-tall towers and be 52 feet above the river.

The towers are expected to be done by late fall or early winter, and then work will begin on the deck.

The whole project is on track to be completed in November 2008, Foster said.
