Yes, very cool.

I have a friend who's been interning in the Marketing department at Durham (and LOVING it!), so she's been telling me all about this for weeks now.

It's probably already been said, but is the "train garden" at Lauritzen going to be a permanent fixture of the gardens?  From the article I read, it seemed like it was, but it just seems like it will be very hard to maintain, especially considering winter.

Streets, Yes it is permanent.  They have a full time crew to maintain it and run it.  Also they have been advertising railroad days for months now.  Its turning in to an annual event.

Great Pics Josh!

Too bad everything was roped off today.  Yesterday everyone was all over the engines when you where there and today nothing...

Zephyr gets to see some of these in Denver and the 844 will be in Denver next weekend.

The1wags, You have some great photo of Railroads Days including Union Pacific Railroad heritage Fleet at Durham Western Heritage Museum. I would like to have seen them after visiting Lauritzen Gardens.

Last Sunday, I went to Railroads Days event and Activities at Lauritzen Gardens, including the Model Railroad Garden Grand Opening

“Downtown” Omaha

A view from the Rose Garden

Visitor & Education Center North hall had a Selection of Railroad art on display from the
Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney, Nebraska.

One of many memorabilia or poster on display in the North Hall from the Union Pacific Railroad Museum

The floral display hall had a table top "O gauge Module Model Railroad display" by the Nebraska-Iowa Railroaders
with bridges, Mountains, towns , a "working" Oil Field, and an industry area.

In the industry area, Ice is being loaded into the boxcar.

My stay at Lauritzen Gardens ended by 45 minute concert of Patriotic & Railroad Songs by the Union Pacific Railroad Chorale.

The concert had some fun songs from competing railroads include one in this video.

was here today w/ family from Atlanta and they LOVED lauritzen gardens. a friend of theirs is also a BIG model train enthusiast and is seriously considering a trip to omaha just to see this.

the big boy model wasnt working today, so the volunteer working took us inside the storage area for the trains and where they keep them during the night.

It looks like a lot of us went to Railroad Days.  I didn't know the plans are to make it an annual event.  That's great news.

Here are a couple of links to my photos -

The photos of the Garden Railway and Kenefick park are here:

The photos from the Durham Western Heritage are here:

I didn't make it to the UP Museum.  Maybe next year.

See you later, gs
