Re: Holland's Greenspace
Last Saturday afternoon, I had to run an errand down in OM. On my way back, I got caught in a big traffic backup on 16th St for a matinee performance at the Orpheum, which got me thinking. It's actually more efficient to have smaller, more distributed parking facilities throughout downtown for larg...

Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters
The impact of moving jobs from one part of town to another is not some gigantic positive for the city. There are chief people at HDR on the OPA board and HDR will get the contract for what ever is built in that space after the Historic building is torn down. Bringing more people into downtown and r...

Re: Grandpa's C Mart - Dundee
I'm excited to hear more about the restaurant going in here. The World Herald article claimed that the menu was finished back in March.

Re: Omaha Steel Castings Property
The project got a couple million dollars back in 2007 for HDR to do a study on it. I really haven't seen anything significant on it after 2007.

Re: Omaha Steel Castings Property
It would be awesome if they could do something like this in that last building standing:
http://www.thesourcedenver.com/
Basically, they took an old iron foundry in Denver and made it into a bunch of high end shops and restaurants.

Re: Holland's Greenspace
The Omaha map is from the following link and does include city surface parking. If there is something missing, maybe its private and not on the city map? http://parkomaha.com/map/ The Lincoln map is from here: http://parkandgo.org/find-parking/interactive-map/ All three of those garages are well Nor...

Re: Holland's Greenspace
As I've mentioned before, I'm not saying that the Holland should tear down historic buildings for a parking garage. But not acknowledging that Omaha has a parking problem downtown is an issue that is going to continue to get worse as more people and businesses move into the area. I've attached a map...

Re: Holland's Greenspace
Even if you were to have to walk 6 blocks, that is a very short distance. I think most people will be ok walking that distance. Unless the garages downtown were completely full, this is absolutely a parking perception. Its fine to say that walking six blocks is a short distance, but its a huge turn...

Re: Holland's Greenspace
I'm not going to say that we should put a garage over the top of Specht, but that garage being empty is definitely not the norm. I've had to walk 6 blocks from the nearest open garage to get to the Holland more than once. Honestly, it makes me not want to go there. You can claim downtown has a parki...

Re: 49th and Dodge Project
I'm excited for this, but I really hope they have a decent plan for parking with all these apartments. The streets in this neighborhood are already saturated with cars parked on the street most of the time.

I noticed that work is being done on the inside of the white building just to the East of Max Walker in Dundee. Has anyone heard anything about something coming into there?

Re: Holland's Greenspace
I felt compelled to comment on the mayor's FB page. Here's what I wrote. A bit long, I know. But I am sad and angry. ___ The irony coming out of by my hometown of Omaha is unbelievable—and unbearable. ConAgra decides to relocate its headquarters to a historical building in Chicago, having demolishe...

Anyone heard anything more on this? It looks like they have all but a couple of the building torn down in there. This could be a really cool development area.

Re: 49th and Dodge Project
I believe the city requires the building to be close to the street and have plenty of walking room in this area to keep an urban feel on these new developments. Here's a link to their guidelines handbook. http://www.cityofomaha.org/planning/urbanplanning/images/stories/UD_pdfs/Urban%20Design%20Handb...
