Re: Mandan Park Improvments

Not sure if you mean the greenspace, gardens and building at Mt. Vernon, but Mandan is connected to Mt. Vernon via the bike trails. I’ve ridden through there several times to ride the bike trails and the park is in decent shape. Speaking as an avid mountain biker, the trails that IMBA’s pro builders...

Re: Downtown core population- hits 7000. People moving downtown

I think the question of a DT grocery store comes down to parking and mass transit. If Douglas County/Omaha mandate some minimum number of parking, then a parking garage is the only answer. For a car-dependent city like Omaha, it still might be the only answer. A store that is profitable in West Omah...

Since the guys I overheard seemed to be from Texas, I can definitely see how they'd be apprehensive of our winters. But having spent some time in Minneapolis and some Canadian cities, Omaha has nowhere near the length and brutality of the winters that those places experience. This last years' winter...

Omaha (city proper) gained 19% in population according to the census figures from 2010 to 2020, so it makes sense there would be construction cranes all over. We are a city on the move. Conventional thought nationwide might question why would people want to move to Omaha? But once people get here t...

I've been to a few Union games this year in Werner Park. It's a great atmosphere, with an engaged crowd and a small but energetic supporters' club. The gameplay was exciting (Union scored a hat trick in the one of the games). Union is currently top-ranked in the USL League One. They had a good shot ...

Not to defend Stothert, but it seems like the vetoes were on procedural budget issues rather than categorical. The city council has an opportunity to override the vetoes, and Stothert indicated that once the bike-way pilot is complete, the budget for the bike-way might pass.

Commercial pedal-assist e-bikes are not what people seem to think they are. They improve access to cycling to everyone, and for even crazy daily bike commuters like myself, they make it possible to ride longer, more frequently, in hotter conditions, and carry more. If you're worried about speed issu...

I think this is the crux of it. 1) American cities are car-centric 2) Scooters are sort of supposed to be operated as cars, but aren't fast or safe enough 3) You just leave them any and everywhere which, for my block means the sidewalks around my building are littered with them. To me, we solve for...

Looks really nice. Glad it's a no-wake lake which will make it really nice for paddleboards, kayaks, etc.

The lack of restrictions on motorboats for zebra mussels and the 'voluntary' boat cleaning means that it's only a matter of time before the lake is infested again.

The worst of the potholes have been filled. There are still some nasty drainage grates that will snag you if you're not careful.
