Re: Official: Capitol District

Its too bad they're finishing most of the exterior in EIFS, especially on a high rise. It really cheapens it up and it will look like |expletive| in 10 years, I guarantee it. Especially that blank east elevation...my god...so much EIFS. Maybe they can hang a gigantic piece of art on it like the ban...

I would say you are correct that the HDZ and the LCZ are not direct competitors, but I do think that the recent developments at the Doorly have spurred the Childerens Zoo to move forward. Many aspects of the new HDZ Adventure Education area are being implemented in Lincoln (I.e. major education buil...

The next few weeks are going to see some major changes to the Capitol District. A Transit Oriented Development and a light rail would be very cool, but a bit of a pipe dream don't you think? I base this on the opinions folks have on a trolley system for the downtown/midtown area that were recently expressed in the OWH (and in the streetcar forum). I wish people were better at i...

Re: Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium

The poll is an Internet poll based on multiple votes by mostly a local population base. It is a popularity contest, not a reflection of the subjective qualities that make a great zoo. It has been a bunch of years since I have been to the St. Louis zoo, and it was an outstanding zoo when I was there....

Looks like they are pulling the top part of the construction elevator on the hotel. They need to start dismantling it to finish the south side of the building. Probabably just removing the top section so they can finish the "brow", then pull the rest later.

I think the hotel may be close to its final height. I am basing that on two observations. The tower crane does not have the mechanism in place to add additional segments to the tower. My one concern is I do not see a 10 meter platform in the diving well. It looks like there are one and three meter springboards and a five meter tower, but no ten meter which is the international standard. I'll have to look at the plans closer to see if I am mistaken in what I am seeing.

I am really psyched about this facility! This is something the area really needs. Omaha needs to start working on their bid to host the state high school championship meet there.
