Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

I had not heard that about First Data wanting to move a bunch of the Omaha people to Atlanta, that would obviously not be good for Omaha. I think that FD was seriously considering a move downtown and bringing in some of the Denver and KC employees. I think how things have played out may have soured ...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

I think a big problem with many development projects involving city property is greed. The developer always wanting to see what else they can get. Interesting thought on Kiewit HQ's, but I think if Walter wanted the Civic spot that would be an easy deal for everyone. I think First Data wanted to mak...

Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel - Blackstone Hotel (SWC 36 & Farnam)

This may have been mentioned already, but I heard that the old Blackstone Hotel is being turned back into a hotel by the Greenslate guys. No idea on timeline or anything like that, just that a water pipe broke a while back and flooded the basement which I think played a role in Kiewit looking to sel...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

The out-of-town mention is interesting and maybe she said that to motivate the Omaha company? Like when the realtor says you gotta move fast on this and make an offer, lots of people interested! Be great if there is a non-Omaha business looking to relocate, but I think our best bet is First Data. Ta...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

I've heard that the people who work in the mailing facilities will not relocate downtown. That is a pretty substantial number I think, but FD employs about 5k in Omaha, so the number of people moving downtown will still be significant.

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

The FDR Campus on 72nd & Pacific has been purchased for UNO Campus expansion. City offering FDR a really good deal to move to Civic site and seems like FDR pretty excited about the offer. Mayor really wants to make this happen. Some FDR people who are not decision makers but somewhat in-th-know ...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

I think the mayor absolutely wants to make something happen at the site by bringing First Data or some employer like that downtown. I don't think the employee leaving kills the deal but it may result in bringing in a new developer for the project. I don't think the Scott Family really cares at this ...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

The story that I have heard is that it is First Data who has expressed interest. There have been some some conversations with them, Tetrad and the city but things got a little sideways when one of the mayor's trusted people left to take a job with Tetrad. Now the mayor is upset and who knows where i...

Re: Lot B Development

We all know that in Omaha there is a relatively small group of wealthy individuals who control or strongly influence things like major development projects. I am not one of these wealthy individuals but I am privy to some of what gets discussed. Condo tower is not a done deal, but how to make it hap...

I think you will see exactly that at the Lot B site.

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

Bath Salts no way... maybe an occasional muscle relaxer though! These deals are done long before the greater public hears about them. Now you can choose to believe me or not and I will be more clear this time. The library is moving to the Civic site. There will be a tower at the current library site...

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

So, this is how I see it going-Tetrad moves the library for the city and donates the rest back to the city for whatever the city wants, then Tetrad which is owned by Walter gets the current library space for a high rise. It will be big, Kiewit and possibly another big employer, like Mutual, to co-br...

I think you will get your wish. The library will move for sure... it's already a done. That is the #1 piece of real estate in Omaha, it will be a high rise.

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

Always tough to bring big companies to town, I know the city and various developers have been working at this to not much avail. The Kiewit Tower happening is a lot closer to a done deal than it is to pie in the sky though. I think Tetrad getting the River Walk going pretty soon, is also very likely.

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

All I can say is that egos and prominence seem to be leading motivators in a lot of these decisions. HDR wanted the library site badly just for the postcard aspect. That is the case with others and I would be surprised if that space is not a big time HQ relocation, my bet would be Kiewit.

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

A few reasons, but the main one being that where the library currently sits is the spot everybody wants and has wanted for years. Big reason why the mayor is so eager and worked so hard to get the library moved, because of the pressure she has been getting from some of the Omaha power brokers. Kiewi...

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

I think that the civic site will partially be used to relocate the Downtown library. The city really wants a new library and I know that many developers really covet the site of the existing library. I do not think either location will lay dormant. I do not thing a high rise at the civic location is...

Re: Tetrad Development (Civic Auditorium)

I think the Civic site ends up being the library, with the rest of the land being used for whatever gets worked out with the city. The high rise will end up being at the library site, everyone wants that spot and has for a long time. I would put my money on Kiewit.

Re: Omaha River Walk

My impression was that what is being considered is basically take some of the open areas around the Leahy Mall and transform that into a "River Walk" area. I am not talking about the actual Missouri River, canals or anything like that.

Omaha River Walk

Pretty new to the board, so I am not sure if this topic has ever come up but I have been hearing that an Omaha River Walk similar to San Antonio is a very real possibility. It is my understanding that the right people on the developer side and the city side would really like to see this happen and h...

Re: HDR

I agree with Tornado that none of this will probably happen very quickly. My understanding is that the original deal with Tetrad taking the Civic site was a hand shake deal with the city to relocate the library and HDR to anchor the site. The civic project stalled out when HDR pulled out and they've...

Re: HDR
