Re: Conagra campus development plans
Hopefully HyVee will build a downtown grocery store there like they did in downtown Des Moines. That'd be a welcome addition.

My wife and I love Inner Rail. Definitely a go-to place for young professionals. Cool, hip concept and the food and drinks are excellent. Kathmandu Momo Station is one of our favorites. Looking forward to the live music venue opening up across the alley!

Re: Proposed Justice Center at 18th and Harney- 10 stories
I like this proposal much better. I hope that it wins sufficient votes to be selected as the courthouse addition. I agree. I just called the Douglas County Commissioners hotline at 402-444-7025 to voice my support for Jim Cavanaugh's proposal to renovate the existing Douglas County juvenile detenti...

Re: Missouri River Commons (Riverfront Development)
Sioux City's council already approved their riverfront design - which includes a large iconic artistic element or Ferris Wheel that will be visible from the interstate. Overall riverfront design looks very nice and will compliment their existing marina. Hope Omaha's planners take note and include so...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)
Kind of a blip in this story, but Mayor Stothert stated her preference against a relocation of the W. Dale Clark Library to the Civic Square site and for it to stay put (albeit demoed and replaced) to aid in the Gene Leahy/Riverfront redevelopment. http://www.omaha.com/news/plus/omaha-library-board...

Re: Official: Omaha Streetcar Discussion
More recent news about the overwhelming success Kansas City is having with their streetcar line. Kansas City is adding two more streetcars after ridership nearly tripled initial projections--now averaging 5,000 riders daily--and spurring over $1.8 billion in private development. Excited to see how O...

Re: Official: Omaha Streetcar Discussion
The opposition has requested empirical evidence that supports the proposed streetcar in Omaha, which we have easily provided (see above). In response, opponents refuse to even acknowledge the recent success of the comparable Kansas City streetcar line. Instead, the opposition relies on personal atta...

Re: Official: Omaha Streetcar Discussion
Why? Seriously, why? A street car system like Prague is crowded like crazy, yet it doesn't seem to add to the value there. This system will go from downtown to UNMC shuttling back and forth. How will this add value? Please give me some actual numbers here. I am tired of fan boys' rosey scenarios. I...

At the YP Summit today, the mayor said Conagra has plans for the campus and she was impressed with them. Didn't give any more details though. She's been saying that for a minute now. Would love if ConAgra would release their plans soon! Yeah, for a couple months now, but nothing has been released y...

Omaha will be fortunate to emulate San Antonio's extraordinarily successful River Walk. San Antonio's River Walk is the #1 tourist attraction in the state of Texas, attracting over 11 million visitors annually, supports more than 31,000 jobs, and has an economic impact of around $3.1 billion per ye...

Re: Omaha River Walk
Why are we trying to emulate San Antonio and OKC with their gimicky little creeks? I am just confused by this project as well as proposing to possibly tear down the Double Tree downtown, some seriously bad ideas being floated around lately. Omaha will be fortunate to emulate San Antonio's extraordi...

Re: Riverfront Development (Rick's & Storz area)
I wish they would turn the Gene Leahy mall into something similar to the San Antonio Riverwalk with shops and restaurants surrounding it. This "riverwalk" would encourage companies and businesses to build around the park and right in the middle of downtown to be close to new and walkable e...

Re: Ashbury Farm
Why don't they instead build the Great Wolf Lodge next to the Henry Doorly Zoo? That would be a much better place for it and go better with the theme of the zoo. For having one of the best zoos in the country, the city of Omaha has sadly underpromoted its top tourist attraction and underutilized the...

As a young professional new to Omaha, HDR's decision is extremely disappointing. It cannot be overstated that cities thrive and grow when they build a vibrant downtown. HDR itself recognized this fact when it created Omaha's downtown master plan, stating: "Downtown Omaha should be the dominant ...
