Re: Giordano's to Omaha?

Unfortunately I cannot see them going anyplace other than a free standing building. Something like the Olive Garden on Dodge. That eliminates the downtown area right away. Need a big lot with parking. If they come I bet they end up way out west on Maple, Dodge, or Center.

Capitol District Bars and Resturaunts.

Any news, rumors, thoughts on the Capital Districts restaurants and or bars?? In one article they stated 4 leases had been signed. Anybody have any info?? It's great to see the hotel and apartments open, but the entertainment value is what is going to make or break this area.

I think a fast casual would be a good fit for the Capital District. DJ's and Local have good "event" menus, but sometimes you want more than burgers and nachos.

From reading the article, these will be in the hotel. God, I hope they have a nice outside street entrance. I will not go to a bar that I have to walk through the lobby of a hotel to get to.

CWS question

We are going to be downtown on Thursday. Would love to check out the game. How hard are General Admission tickets to get out side the gates? Do they sell out often? Really don't want to see the whole game, just a couple of innings.

Re: Official: North Downtown Discussion

I am very familiar with the space under 480 at 10th and Capital. Walk my dog there all the time. Development would help. The building to the east of Local would be a great start. By the time you are there you are already sort of half way under the interstate. The road would need to be elevated to ge...

Re: Upstream Brewing Company

My opinion of Upstream (downtown) has always been average. I think the food is average. I think the beer is average. So no real complaints, just no real motivation to go there. It has sort of a corporate bar feel, and the same food. The facility is very nice. We find ourselves there when we have a g...

Re: Zio's Pizza

As a self proclaimed pizza lover and maker I offer the following humble opinion. As a reasonable priced, casual, New York style pie, Zio's is very good. Good slightly sweet sauce with a good melt on the cheese. Slightly oily (as it is supposed to be). It's hard to compare to other types of pizza, li...

I would say they are still open. Last post on their Facebook page was only 22 hours ago. Ladies night!! They do have private parties from time to time that are not open to the public. Nosh is a great bar if you are downtown. A little more "adult" than the party at DJ's Dugout. Food is good...

I also like to follow the whole downtown business area. One thing that keeps me concerned is the continuing development. You cannot keep building all over the place and expect things to stay the same. The Capital District will clearly take business away from the Old Market. I would rather go to Aksa...

This really is a testament to our society. All they want is to be able blame somebody if something goes wrong. How about you blame the person that just drank 15 beers. Not the bar, not the district.

I hope the whole Old Market gets together and does some sort of grand re-opening. I hear that traffic has been way down. Hire a band. Have a parade. Block off the streets and have a festival. Just do something to attract attention.

I think we need to be careful. Expansion for the sake of expansion is never a good idea. How about we let the existing downtown businesses earn a living before we add more taxes and government sponsored competition. Sure an awesome riverfront would be cool, but not at the cost of the rest of downtow...

CWS and the Old Market

The old market may complain about lack of people. But they do nothing to market nor encourage people to get down there. Put up some signs. Hand out coupons. Run a shuttle. All things that would not be that hard nor expensive, yet they do not do it.

This is one of my favorite Omaha summer events.

I hope the vendors listened to me after last years Taste.

It is TASTE of Omaha, not WHOLE MEAL of Omaha. A $ 15 rack of ribs or a $ 12 whole pizza is not a taste!

Hope to break my record of 12 different things eaten!

Two post in one day! I really like outside the box thinking. Two thoughts that I have had: The city should make the parking building next to Roja's free. With a little promotion it would greatly help the Old Market stay open. Second, M's should look at the old "O" building. They literally ...

It is really sad but it would have been better for the old market if the building had come down. There would be a flat lot there right now. The old market would be "open" again. The owners of M's must really consider their neighbors as they move forward. Sure a top to bottom historically a...

I don't see how HDR can be blamed for what OPA wants to do. HDR is building and new building on an empty lot. Why is there such a huge rush to develop this property? Doesn't endless development eventually hurt the businesses that are already here? How about focusing on what we already have and make it better.
