Re: Block 16 (1611 Farnam Street)

This website has had some pretty bad restaurant takes over the years. Perhaps the dumbest of which betray the staggering ignorance to restaurant economics. How about Block 16 charge twice as much to make up for how tiny their margins are? I’m sure you’ll be the first to applaud their commitment to “...

Cuba and Nebraska don’t have much in common. Not weather. Not cuisine. Not ethnic makeup. Not language. But they do have one big thing in common. They are both one party states. And being thus, the political slant of each locale will be very slow to change, and those that are in power are very like...

Dodge and Douglas aren’t only not pedestrian friendly, they’re downright hostile. There isn’t a single storefront on Dodge from 10th to 40th. This has been litigated over and over again. But to recap: 1) JC had enough merit to be included in the Natiomal Register IN ITS ENTIRETY. There were dozens of buildings and encompassed almost 9 city blocks. 2) They were most certainly in “good shape”. Harper and his crew had demo crews poking hole ...

Agreed! Empty storefronts for vagrants to set fires to are waaaay preferable to development. Or better yet, the resulting brownfields of abandoned lots strewn with condoms and needles are great for community feel and help develop pride in the neighborhood.

Consider the possibility of switching leagues. With a solid and growing draw and the resources that come with that, Union could outgrow its current league. That recently happened in Cincinnati.

But it is. Or just proximate to it. It is a natural extension. If Dundee is to grow, this is how that happens. And it is a vast material improvement of brick and glass. That’s not subjective. Ok, snarky geniuses, time to do some math. To make 150 you need to have roughly $750 on sales. Tips average about 20%. At $20 per guest that’s around 40 guests. If it’s a 5 table section thats turning each table once. Which is a normal evening shift. So, how often does that happen? All the time. Eve...

The damage done to downtown Omaha from 1960-2000 is nearly insurmountable. From street level, in downtown, midrises make such a positive impact. The fact they take up more of a footprint really helps make the whole are seem more walkable and liveable. Eventually high rises make more sense as propert...

I’m sorry, but that analysis is totally incorrect. Maybe 10% of building stock remains from 1944, Omaha‘s high water mark. There is virtually no sense of the city that existed in pre 1960. The Mall was built by seizing a huge swath of the heart of downtown. 480 obliterated north downtown. 16th stree...
