All great markets in the US!  I think with the combined interest in locally sourced fresh foods (meats, fruits, and vegetables) and the food cart explosion we are seeing around the country, something like this would work well in our challenging climate (though this winter has been fantastic).  I t...

Downtown would be great, but other then that this is a great location.  It's in the heart of an area with lots of young professionals and is within 2.5 miles of Creighton, UNO, and UNMC and their combined 25,000 students, both key customers for these types of facilities.

It is always incredibly disappointing that historic buildings of this caliber are lost to buildings that will have no historic or architecture quality at all.

How about a European style food hall?  Imagine inventive young chefs, ethnic foods, fresh produce, a french bakery, cheese mongers, sea food and local sausage makers all housed together in one of the large industrial buildings.

A little more info.  I had no idea it was for sale for some time now.   $8 million.   Omaha Steel's move to free up prime land http://www.omaha.com/article/20120113/NEWS01/701139887 — and leave open a key piece of midtown real estate that's already attracting interest from several groups, including ...

First off, the Saddle Creek road was supposed to skirt the eastern border of this site and HDR’s site designs have the medical center expanding into this site.  I asked HDR in the spring if UNMC still planned to expand into Steel Casings site and was told definitively that Steal Casting was staying...

The building has very little historic importance so not likely to retain any of that, the problem is that this has a super heavy duty foundation and structure that would be expensive to remove, and may open one up to more environmental issues.

Douglas County Assessor no longer shows UP ownership, but no other info.

"This sale has been split or combined. The value report at time of sale is no longer available."  Dated 11-29-2011.

Combined?  Mattress Factory expansion?  No other abutting lots.

Thanks for the welcome.   I don't want to take away from the developer announcing their plans, so I can't give any specifics, but it they stick with their plans as they are now, it will not be anything remotely recognizable to a suburban fast food restaurant.  Far more dense then that.   The amou...

Townsend / former Union Pacific Headquarters

The first dump trucks just showed up to fill the hole.

I'm amazed Townsend is putting this kind of money into filling a hole when they have drastically cut back on the development plans for the site.

The building they plan to put in is surprisingly impressive.  It appears the building to the west is being vacated , so possibly a new development there as well.
