Re: Omaha Streetcar Discussion

The intent to connect the airport with 10th street corridor is to attract more business travelers and short term stays. It's not intended to get your family across town with tons of luggage to go on vacation. It doesn't matter if you use buses or trains. There is no need to have any stops between th...

Re: Omaha Streetcar Discussion

I don’t think it’s unpopular necessarily but a very costly extension that would be nice, but even if that ever did happen, it would be at least a decade or 2 away. Let's get that light rail plan started then... Streetcar is the least favorable option between the airport and Downtown. Light rail>reg...

Re: Omaha Streetcar Discussion

On Grow Omaha the Mayor mentioned the streetcar colors would be like the parking kiosk colors. So I guess, blue, purple, green, orange, etc. Also interesting to note, and while unpopular on this forum, Jean said eventually the streetcar would go to the airport. Not a fan of these colors together. A...

Re: Civic Square (former Civic Auditorium)

I kind of hope that they don't put the grocery store at the Civic site. My main issue is that it's too far from the streetcar line and/or the population center. As such, it's a bit too far to walk, especially with heavy bags of groceries. A lot of lazy people (like me) will end up driving, even tho...

They mayor said on Grow Omaha that they are holding onto the RFP because they have a specific vision for the site (she wants minimum 15-20 stories, mixed use), and apparently developers that have come forward with ideas have not met that vision (she said one wanted to do a residential development o...

We all knew it was only a matter of time before Lot B and D were developed. There is no need to have every lot of their own garage. Lot D is huge. I would rather build a large one to handle all the stalls from Lot B and D combined. This opens up the option I listed above to make Lot B a mixed use pe...

I still like the idea of adding that third tower in the center. They could change the name to "The Trio".
In the meantime....still a step forward. I feel like the garage plans are very modest considering how many units are involved.

Don't they have rules for windows when built above a certain height? I thought they only allowed windows that could open a few inches to prevent people from jumping or accidentally leaning to close to the edge.

Back to Aksarben Village... Has there ever been any studies on how full the garages get? A bus route to do that would be a great idea, but the streetcar to the airport isn't feasible. I have said before a streetcar line down 16th street to airport is a poor choice. In fact, a streetcar running the entire route to the airport would be the wrong mode. But they could build a light rail th...

If the city is in charge of building and maintaining the garages, would that give them full control to build what we want? Could they convert Gallup into a mixed use building? Cut the office space down so Gallup could stay. Convert some of the space into condos. Maybe make the lobby into a food hall. Then they could develop the parking lot with more density and pull the soccer stadium all together as one district.

I would think it would at least be equal to or more than the Brickline (5 stories). So pushing a 7-8 story building seems like a reasonable get. Getting a CVS or Walgreens would be a great for the area.

Make sure they stock up on lawn chairs, sun block, and Frisbees for the park goers. HA!

This neighborhood REALLY needs 13th street to be consolidated down to 2 lanes and one middle turning lane. Then add some bike lanes.
