Re: Chamber's ConnectGo Initiative
Yeah, going to be on Prof Woland’s side. Of course you are. But I'm not arguing I'm favor (although I am) of the streetcar. I'm calling out the childish stance of not being able to consider any mass transit plan until the streetcar idea is dead. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean yo...

Shahi Indian, downtown on Farnam, is excellent, and a very attractive restaurant. One of our longtime “go to” Asian places is Crystal Jade. And China Garden is by far our favorite Chinese restaurant. There are many good Thai places in the city. Same with Sushi places. Shahi is my favorite Indian re...

Re: Chamber's ConnectGo Initiative
Well, if the initiative's realistic focus was on improving transit, that would be one thing, but that's not what this is about. It's about a streetcar. Building a streetcar would inevitably come at the expense of bus service and road maintenance. In the overwhelming majority of cities that have gon...

Re: Chamber's ConnectGo Initiative
Considering that building a streetcar would do real harm to the city, yes, stopping it from getting built should be priority number one. Also, who's pouting? I expressed a minority opinion and explained my reasoning. In retrospect, this was a mistake, because there is no more demeaning waste of time...

We can look at those transit options once the idea of a streetcar is dead, cremated, and its ashes scattered to the four winds.

That’s some interesting feedback for sure..and perhaps valid to an extent in Western Iowa.. It certainly doesn’t seem to slow down developers in selected parts of central and eastern Iowa though... Ciao..LiO...Peace True. I was curious about how metros on Iowa's borders are growing. It's hard to di...

Re: Is the Omaha metro population growing faster than the US Census estimates?
I remember listening to an episode of Grow Omaha a few months ago where a developer was discussing the difference between Nebraska and Iowa laws. Apparently in Nebraska an developer can issue bonds to pay for a subdivision, which is very helpful in getting a development going. In Iowa this isn't per...

I think the increased cynicism is due to the general ill will that seems to permeate all aspects of contemporary online culture. I think casino gambling should be legal because I think that what consenting adults do with their money is their business, especially when the overwhelming majority are able to do so responsibly, but I think we are fooling ourselves if we think that casinos will provide a revenue bonanza. If we're l...

Women's clothing is usually more cheaply made than menswear. The reason being that, typically, a woman buys a piece for a year or two while a man likes to wear something for a decade or more. These are broad brush generalizations, but they hold pretty true. As I understand it, Lululemon sells athlet...

Frankly I'm more excited about the potential of a new-to-the-area business locating downtown than the tower itself. Towers are cool and all, but ultimately they aren't that important, it's what fills the towers that matters. Hopefully this speculation becomes reality soon.

I think where MTC got off on the wrong foot was the types of tenants they targeted. Some have done very well (Hutch, the Grey Plume, the hotel) but many others flopped. It seemed like they were going for a lot of new to the city brands that didn't exactly wow anyone. Some of the local options floppe...

I think the restaurants that failed probably would have failed at most other locations in the city. I actually enjoyed a couple of them.
