The Big 10 is pinning its hopes on playing football in the spring.
Will the Big 10's reasons for canceling fall football disappear by then? Scott Frost doesn't think so.

Re: Nebraska Football 2020
Has there been any comment on the record from any NU official, athletic department or otherwise, suggesting that NU might consider leaving the Big 10 because of this? Tom Shatel in the World-Herald is floating the possibility but it seems extremely far-fetched. NU is addicted to the Big 10 payouts. ...

Dr. Tom had it right when he said the Big 10's decision is probably more about liability avoidance than anything else.

Agree there has been a real lack of leadership from the NCAA. They just sit back and watch all this happen.

Re: Vote by Mail / Absentee Voting
I hope people can appreciate how labor-intensive vote-by-mail is for the county election office. The volume this year will far exceed anything seen before especially in Douglas County. Each ballot request, and each ballot return envelope, must be manually processed by an election office worker. It's...

Re: Crossroads - Redevelopment Plan
This thread is in the "Suburban Development" category because this board draws the "Urban" line at 72nd Street. Considering the Omaha city limits now extend beyond 204th to the west, perhaps the "Urban" line should be farther west than 72nd which is more or less midtown...

With vote-by-mail in Nebraska, the ballot is not counted unless the signature on the return envelope is a reasonable match to that on file for the voter whose name is on the envelope. With in-person voting, anyone can walk into a polling place, claim to be someone else, sign the book and cast a bal...

“Absentee Voting” is not “Mail-in Voting”. Please learn the differences. Yep. The WSJ just published an editorial on Monday about Wash state’s mail in voting where they sent ballots to the writer and his wife despite them living in TX for nearly a year and changing their voter registrations. Some s...

Usually when a business eliminaties hundreds of good-paying jobs, there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth by public officials. It's my understanding that wind power is at cost parity with coal. http://fortune.com/2015/10/06/wind-cheap-coal-gas/ I know people in the industry and those cost are wildly misleading. Wind generation cost is currently almost double what coal is in the midwest. You also need ALOT of wind turbines ...

What's with all the empty seats, especially in the lower bowl? Selling 6000 season tickets doesn't mean as much if people don't show up at the games. Lots of corporate seats that often don't get used. Then the owners of those seats should give them up to someone who will actually attend the games.

I haven't really heard how people who oppose the plan want this all to be resolved. There are basically 3 options: 1) lower the fee and raise rates 2) keep fee the same and raise rates 3) raise fee and raise rates What do the majority of people want? I guess option 1 is the "most fair" to...

What most people don't seem to realize are ALL the costs that go in to delivering a utility to your house. With ever increasing environmental regulations and the push for "clean power", the cost to bring that to a home and keep it reliable goes up. Just because you use less power than me,...

Terrific show from Joe Bonamassa at the Civic Music Hall last night. Â The guy is one heck of a guitar player and a soulful vocalist as well.

I'm guessing it's something associated with UNMC, but would like to know more specifics.

If I remember correctly, the original concept at Qwest was for a large high-rise hotel (Marriott?). Â They ended up building a much smaller Hilton. Have people actually been conserving that much energy that it's put a dent in the utilities pocket? There are many reasons for the revenue decrease, the least of which is consumers' use of CFLs etc. As Husker13 said, the off-system sales revenue for OPPD has dropped substantially in the past couple...

Let me preface this by saying I do not own a satellite dish, I don't plan to own one, and I don't work for a satellite TV provider. The new $50 satellite dish inspection fee has to rank right up there with the dumbest things ever approved by the Omaha city council. What threat to public health &...
