Since this is marketed (primarily) towards Creighton students, call it "The Nest" - with a blue jay "landing" :)

"Grover" sculpture and Al Veys
I just read that there used to be a big blue sculpture in front of the City-County building downtown that looked a lot like the one at Pipal Park. Apparently, Mayor Al Veys ordered it removed. Does anyone have any photos showing the sculpture downtown? Also, anyone know what happened to it?

Anyone know the history of this building? It's attached to a warehouse, but looks more like apartments with stained glass on the upper floors.

Anyone know what they are doing with all the facde brick? I'd like to obtain a few. The stuff they have taken down so far has been pulverized, becoming an operating surface for their excavators. Not sure if they will be more careful as they continue. I'll let you know if they start stockpiling it s...

I wonder how the street modifications would impact the feel of the area. I read somewhere that one of the street modifications would include removal of the entire landscaped median along 10th in front of the CLink :/

Re: HDR
Nothing says they would have to build something "suburban." I'd be happy if they demolished the two empty ConAgra buildings, re-established the grid, and built something with at least the massing and density of the former JC buildings. One can hope! Keep just one ugly, red ConAgra brick i...

Re: HDR
Because of how easily everything seemingly fell apart over 100 parking spaces, my guess is that HDR would have found a reason to not build downtown even if the OPA deal went through. Yes, the agreement mandated that HDR would have obtained the parking lot, but there was nothing in the agreement that...

According to the OWH this morning, HDR now wants $21M in TIF for their building, $3M of it which would be used to pay OPA for the parking lot. Now the City is in the hook for $32M. TD Ameritrade Part Deux. IMO, very unimpressive for all the hype, and another addition to the wall of thin, rectangular, East-West oriented, flat top buildings along Dodge. Although technically yes, it will change the skyline, but it is certainly not a building that will help Omaha's skyline stand o...

It might be easier/cheaper/safer to build a replica of the two existing exterior brick side and walls and rear wall on the new lot (all held up by temporary steel bracing), then transfer the facade of the Specht to the front of the new shell, then transfer all of the original interior support column...

Yup. Dick Bell. So these buildings were doomed from the moment HDR undoubtedly told OPA to buy that surface parking lot. That's some back room underhanded BS.GetUrban wrote:Former CEO of HDR is on OPAS board, and still on HDR board too, fwiw.
