Atlanta by far has the least pedestrian friendly downtown area of any major city I've visited. I was really surprised and expected much better.

At 929 square feet, the smallest unit will be slightly smaller than those in the first tower. Condos will feature exotic hardwood floors and higher ceilings
I wonder what they mean by exotic hardwoods? Sounds cool at least.

Would I be correct to say that Urban Outfitters doesn't have their own brand of clothing they design and make? They sell items from probably something like a couple dozen different brands . . . are some of those actually owned by Urban Outfitters? And are brands that clearly aren't theirs, such as A...

This is really cool news. As far as the aluminum goes, I wouldn't doubt that it was chosen for longer term durability/ease of maintenance. I think aluminum can be developed to have a weathered look. I hope that is the route this goes.

How much of an idea of what kind of retailers can be expected here? I was thinking this would be a perfect spot to get some highly regarded national brands that aren't in Omaha ... maybe a place for housewares like Crate & Barrel or Restoration Hardware.

Big E,

Your idea sounds really good. Is it something you just thought of; or do you know of something similar employed elsewhere?

Shouldn't everyone be most upset that they apparently used a DAIRY cow in the ad instead of a beef variety?? That's Wisconsin's image, not Nebraska's.

Golden Eagle has some good points (although I think people in SF are way nicer than NYC).

Anyone ever noticed downtown Atlanta looks cool from a distance, but you get there and it's total pain to walk anywhere? Half the cross walk signals are burned out.

The whole state of New York went smoke free about 2.5 years ago for bars, restaurants, etc. It is wonderful; I think I'm more likely to go out to these places because of this. Especially bowling alleys! In the past I'd likely pick already dirty clothes out of the hamper before going bowling . . . if...

Look at how we name the regions of this country. Almost all of the Middle West is in the eastern part of the country. The South is pretty much only the Southeast. Cities are the same way, based on early stages of development.

I'm sure a lot of you saw the article in the World-Herald about the renewed hope for the bridge. http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=1636&u_sid=2071290 I guess even if they have to change the design, that might be ok . . . but I kind of like the current one. It is reminiscent of the Zakim bridge...

A good one that comes is in National Geographic July 2001 "Urban Sprawl: The American Dream?" (great pictures too). Another is in The Atlantic Monthly Dec. 1999 "Divided We Sprawl"

I'd be happy to try this place. I wish them luck too. It's nice to see another brewpub open, but I wonder if everyone is going to compare them to Upstream. The Upstream has set the bar really high. Their beer is probably better than most places, but maybe more importantly, the food and atmosphere is...

Redfield, your points are very good. Anyone who has studies urban planning has certainly read works by Jane Jacobs. Written over 40 years ago, her writing about "eyes on the street" in The Death and Life of Great American Cities makes very similar statements. It's only recently, however, t...

Those are nice pictures. The Loess Hills are a really neat place, something I think a lot of people in the area don't appreciate. In terms of geology, an area along the Yellow River is the only other similar place in the world.
