Re: Official: Gene Leahy Mall

Why did the Omaha Riverfront Revitalization committee have to bring the Gene Leahy Mall in to this? The City just dumped a bunch of money in to improving the park, and now they want to fill it in again. The GLM is great as it is. It could use a couple minor improvements, but not this. There are so ...

Re: Ponca Tribe Casino -- Carter Lake

Potentially big legal decision allowing a casino in Carter Lake. Mentions of 2000 slot machines and 50 tables along with a 150 room hotel. I haven't done a ton of digging, but it looks like it may be planned for the empty lot next to the new Casey's. The lot next to Casey's is owned by the Omaha tr...

Either way Annexation should be a high priority. Why? The amount of land a city controls doesn't correlate to its success or financial prosperity. Yes it does. If Omaha were to let Bennington annex all of west Douglas County outside of Omaha, or let Valley and Waterloo merge and take the trans-Elkh...

There is a very nice second or third wave of fall color moving into the Omaha metro area right now. Lots of oranges and deep reds. The burning bushes are just on fire right now. Yes, have noticed that. I went to North Platte Monday and after Lincoln, no color. I have to go to southern Iowa for work...

Went south today. Pony Creek Lake in Glenwood, Iowa was spectacular. Took friends from Omaha and they were in awe. Then went to Waubonsie State Park in Sidney. Very cool, so much better than last year. We all agreed that around Glenwood the colors were so much better.

The first 8 years 425 million was spent on the reconstruction. The next 5 years 571 million will be spent. And finally, the last 2 years it will be 260 million. Considering that there are other highway projects in Iowa, I think this is pretty good.

It seems that the whole interstate project in CB is taking way longer than it should. I remember when they reconstructed the S 24th St bridge as one of the first steps to widening I-80. That bridge was completed in 2001. So here we are 15 years later, and still a ton of work to do on the roadway un...
