Re: Wildlife in the City
I've always had a fascination with wildlife in the city, so fun topic. Here's what I've seen over my 36-odd years in Omaha. I lived in Benson for the first 30 years or so of my life. Other than a screech owl and a deer traipsing through a neighbor's yard once, I only saw the typical raccoons, opossu...

Re: Stir Concert Cove 2016
Brian Wilson will be there in July. To say I'm excited would be an understatement, as I am a huge fan. He will be performing the entire Pet Sounds album as well as some other hits. His voice isn't what it used to be by any stretch, but it'll still be great to see him. http://www.omaha.com/go/beach-b...

Re: The Stothert Administration
I should probably clear up my Daub point, as he certainly paid the price for how he was perceived through election results. I would say that Stothert has a similar rep to Daub while doing much less to deserve it. Daub was often abrasive, needlessly so, and it hurt him. Stothert can be but nearly to ...

Re: The Stothert Administration
I just don't understand the complete disdain people have for Stothert. Is it because she's a female Republican leading a city with a sizable Democratic population? Yeah, she doesn't candy coat things, but she has been very level headed. I wish that people would put the best construction on things s...

Re: The Stothert Administration
The robbery occurred at 9:30 AM; the problems with the roads had materialized well before then (I was on the roads at 7 AM). The officer didn't block Dodge Street for the plows until after noon (story claims they had called for plows 2 1/2 hours before they actually arrived). Stothert didn't even us...

Re: Storz Trophy Room Grill & Brewery (Rick's Boatyard)
Even though it is on the river, I have always felt this was a weird location as it isn't on a main road, it is hidden by the CL and there isn't anything next to it to make it a destination besides dinner. You could go for a walk or sit and watch the river but come Winter time even walking from the ...

Re: New Book "The Legend of Hummel Park"
Thank you! In truth, I did this one myself, as I do interior book design on the side and so it's not much of a leap for me. Someone else did the cover and illustrations (which is why they're not stick figures), and I have an awesome editor, so I figured I'd eschew a publisher this time around since ...

New Book "The Legend of Hummel Park"
Hey all, sorry if this is frowned upon, but I recently released a short story collection that uses Hummel Park as a setting for a few stories and Omaha or Nebraska as the rest (although I don't always talk about Omaha in all of them). Channel 6 did a story on it with a lot of the details today, whic...

Re: Benson Mixed-Use Project
I am not sure--I got a quick glance at some blueprints but it was just that. But I believe the buildings will be 4 stories each, and yes, buildings, as there will be 2 total. The bank one goes up first followed by another once the old bank is leveled.

Re: Benson
Also, DC Assessor does show the property is owned by them effective 11-25-13 so at least that part is accurate. The apartment complex would be near there--I do know that the Sinclair gas station was approached but declined.

Re: Benson
I apologize, I was told it would be this morning and nothing so far (and I would presume nothing until Friday with the holiday).
However, my understanding is the old Walgreen's will be a Salvation Army thrift shop. Try and contain your excitement.

Re: Benson
I can't go into details, unfortunately, but there should be a big announcement tomorrow regarding a new apartment complex going up in Benson. I will be very curious to see the reaction to it.
