We have a chef, Hal Jasa, over here (in Des Moines) that has been doing this for a couple of years.  They've had them on the rooftops of buildings downtown, in victorian Sherman Hill homes, etc.  You won't even know who you are dining with until you go to the location (which isn't revealed until a ...

The government takes a lot more from us than we do from them, IMO. But I digress and don't want to make this a political discussion. Regardless, like other "fringe activities" this is largely harmless and only affects people outside of it that let themselves be nosy about other people's bu...

I don't think anyone here is really that concerned about a proliferation of underground restaurants popping up and destroying the dinner scene in Omaha, or maybe even worse, hastening the onset of the end of Western civilization.  The points and comparisons have to be made, though. It's very simil...

I think these kinds of things are great.   I don't see it as any worse than having a house party and charging people for a cup or having a semi-private band show (which happens quite a bit and are awesome) that you have to "know" people to get into.  That's just how it works.  To think ...

Well said, Tango. Omaha is not remotely on scale with Chicago, or Manhatten, or a lot of other cities.  And really, that's what I like about it.  If I wanted those types of layouts, I'd live in those cities.   Omaha still has a "small-town" feel to it which I enjoy.  I think growth is ...

Benson does need a makeover.  I recently bought a house here and I love it, but it's got some rough spots. Having all the music venues here is great though.  But they need a diner or something that's open late.  The Benson Grind seems to have "we'll be open when we feel like it" hours. ...

Heck, that doesn't even scratch the surface of how many places play live music here.

Which is what I meant by oversaturation.  Though, once you get west of 72nd street you tend to see fewer "shows" and more "bands serving as background music for pool and darts".

Having rehearsal spaces in the place will certainly offer something this city has been lacking, but a 2,000-seat venue is going to have a rough time making a profit in this town.  There are dozens of music venues in this city and very few local acts can fill those, and most of them are 200-and-und...
