Compared to other cities in the region, Omaha sprawl isn't that bad at all, making its commute times neglegible... If you look at the area that urban portions of Des Moines or the Quad Cities metros cover, they're similar to Omaha, even though each has significantly less population. Omaha drivers/co...

One thing I'm not clear on w/this project is the fate of the old Younker's space... Is it going to be bulldozed for a new foodcourt or simply gutted and remodeled? I've heard rumors flying both ways. It would seem that this would move a lot faster if it was just a remodel job than a demolition and r...

Re: IDOT includes CB Interstate Overhaul in 5 yr Plan
This is sorely needed. What is also needed is for Omaha to widen 80 in both directions on the Omaha side of the river where it is only to lanes (to/from the 480 merger/split). Traffic at night into Iowa backs up usually just west of 24st. Are there any plans in Nebraska to add lanes here? Just echo...

Minneapolis condo boom
Hey fellow forumers - I haven't posted much lately but still lurk. I've been doing "extreme job hunting" for the past couple months and got sick of the internet for a bit... I'm moving to KC in a month for my first "real" job post-grad school, even though I tried to find somethin...

2 cents: The first rendering makes it look great...the others don't. Waayy to much corporate labeling... It's too bad KC couldn't get the original design...now that was a great design. It coulda been something from Star-Trek. But then again, this probably won't be the last adjustment made to the des...

Yes a retail store CAN be a store AND a tourist attraction. What is the Mall of America? This is very true...and I would be open to TIF money for Cabela's, etc...just not $20 million. I think they should be lent support, but they would be viable without the additional incentives proposed by LB 500....

In general I’m not for this bill. I don’t support giving a rich thriving company millions of dollars in tax breaks so that they can make more money. Cabela’s is doing fine financially. If they opened a store in Omaha it would be a success for them even without the tax breaks. I am not a fan of givi...

By defenition moderates don't have deeply held beliefs and are far to wishy washy to stand up to the kind of presure they will be under. This will be a great issue for the Republicans running against Sen. Ben next year. I had the good fortune of talking with Sen. Nelson at the Morrison-Exon Dinner ...

I'm amazed that this got the majority of the legislature backing it...even if it did fall short of the supermajority needed to add it to the budget.Coyote wrote:Proposal to ban gay discrimination falls two votes short

Indoor auto centers are common up north (Minnesota has several.) Some biggies are Snell in Mankato (converted Menards building...thinking it may even be bigger than Plaza) and Miller in St. Cloud...though not quite as big... I'm guessing they're designed to make car shopping easier during colder mon...

There's nothing wrong with Kraft - sure he (like everyone else in local politics) likes free press. He's motivated, and willing to take up controvercial subjects (like a smoking ban and against a neighborhood nudie bar) that would move Omaha forward into line with more progressive cities with clean ...

its not about the tall buildings, east of 72nd just has character, west of it looks like every other city in america...i would rather be on the east end of omaha, and i can say that after living most of my life on the west end Exactly. Who visits Chicago to go eat in Shaumburg? Oh puh-leez.....
