Re: Colonial Hotel - Blackstone (38th and Farnam)
Back in the 70's a little office on the 1rst floor was the home of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. It was a telemarketing boiler room ran by a 400 pound weasel con man. They ran an ad in the paper almost year round. They would call people up implying they were the police to solicit donations a...

I believe the Red Lion Lounge opened last week... Ever find any info from the original Red Lion lounge? The operators of this place I know were searching for something, but because of its unscrupulous past, I don't think much exists. Sounds like this place was a lounge for an upstairs brothel, at o...

Re: Blackstone Social
This was not the place I was referring to. I was referring to "The Red Lion," which has a pretty long (and interesting) history in Omaha, which should be set to open in the next few months.
I don't know if you guys already have a thread for it or not.

I think the Civic site ends up being the library, with the rest of the land being used for whatever gets worked out with the city. The high rise will end up being at the library site, everyone wants that spot and has for a long time. I would put my money on Kiewit. If I was forced to place a bet, I...

Not having two plates is probable cause for a traffic stop, but the police have better things to do. If they do ticket you, it's a non-moving violation and $25 plus court costs. I'm sure that a large portion of Corvette owners can pay the fee versus drilling holes to mount front plates. https://sup...

The waste was shelling out all that money to maintain the Civic, although, for some of those years, there was no other alternative. Now we have an alternative. Putting any more money into that building, other than for demolition, is also a waste, even more so than it was then. The Civic had major t...

Re: How Would You Like Omaha's Future Interstate System To Look?
Omaha's current footprint is not going to change. And currently, western and southern portions of the metro could use additional beltways to relieve congestion in other parts of the city. I agree, though, that we cannot keep adding freeways that enable endless growth south and westward, unless we ar...

I heard people in Chicago were aghast by its appearance after the Trump tower was built there. Don't you feel that snubbing in Chicago would have to do more with people's dislike of Trump, rather than the quality of the building itself? I think Omababe's remark reveals a hint of that. Re: High rise housing downtown
The definition of what constitutes a "skyscraper" is mostly dependent on the location. In Omaha, the newest FNB tower and Woodmen still meet the criteria, but in NYC or Chicago they would just be called high-rise if that. If you created a world-wide definition, now you'd probably have to ...
