Wouldn't it be feasable, and perhaps smarter if a new beltway were to be constructed, to have it leach off I-29 for an x29 designation?! That way we wouldn't use all of our x80 options. Or if a new beltway didn't cross into Iowa and just connected between 80 and 680 (say from Gretna north around and...

I thought the even numbers denoted an Interstate connects to another, I.E. 480 connecting I80 & I29 and 680 much the same, only larger. Odd numbers like I-180 in Lincoln signified the interstate does not meet up w/another interstate and one way or another ceases following interstate travel stand...

IMO the Autozone Park is too big for that downtown, proportionally speaking. It seems to dominate the aerial picture with its huge footprint. Much in the same way Haymarket Park in Lincoln would if it was located at 15th & O street. If a new DT Omaha stadium (let stick w/haymarket park for examp...

This sounds like nearly the reverse of what we're used to. Instead of getting excited about getting a non-stop to the Chicagos or Phoenixes of the U.S. we are now the news in Brookings & Huron. People in Mom's cafe talking "Hey, check it out; we got a new flight into Omaha!". Its a nic...

I moved to Omaha in January of 2003, right across the street from the Chalco rec area.

Great article! Just finished reading it myself on the OWH website. Best line:

I had heard a lot of jokes about Nebraska, that you've got a lot of cornfields, but the reality is it's a real city," Williamson said. "Omaha should really go out and solicit more conventions.

Yeah, I'm a transfer from Lincoln. The Old Mill office, which is just an interviewing center (call center), will most likely not move downtown simply because most of the employees don't live downtown. However I haven't heard any plans for relocation in the near future. Also, to answer your other que...

That building with the Ford water tower on Cuming street...

...OK, can't remember the name of it, however it is being renovated for lofts. Thought I'd mention that when I drove by it on the way to work they have nearly all the windows removed. Neat to be able to look right through it. If I can get pics this week I will.

What would also be nice in lincoln would be an interstate system or mabe even an outer loop for the city. But that may not be that likely. This has been in the works for several years. The route plans have been approved. Currently they are pursuing right-of-way acquisition (followed by final design...

I have to really disagree with the guy. IMO that location is not begging for more retail. I'll accept his statement about 20,000 houses between W. Dodge/Gretna and 168/204th streets but adding more stores to that area will make it even more congested when those 20,000 households show up. Especially ...

To add, I think one of the biggest challenges will be for the next mayor after these elections. For now I'm a dedicated land lubber! Traffic was bad enough on Saturday, I wouldn't want to imagine trying to dock a boat as well. I would assume most had slips nearby, many looked like awful nice boats.

Eppley Immigration Center

Maybe I missed in the OWH, but this article was in the Lincoln paper today. Sounds like a sizeable center. Its a good step for Eppley to expand its services but would this pave the way to international flights further (much further) down the road? Certainly not direct to London, etc, but regional Ca...

More freeways

There was a comment made in a recent post about how Omaha should have more N/S and E/W freeways. It creates an interesting scenario along with a comparison to K.C. Kansas City is at an extreme with freeways to go nearly everywhere but your front porch! However, I think OMA would benefit by planning ...

You MUST use SC4 if you haven't already!! The game+Traffic Expansion pack sell at a decent price at Best Buy. The traffic expansion pack (which isn't the official name, but is all i can come up with at the moment) makes a world of difference when realism is concerned.

Last I heard it was to be named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I find it rather unimaginative and nearly insulting that such a future Omaha landmark would not be named after a local at the very least.

The D70 seems to be making a mark for itself. Many of the pics and reviews I've seen are reflecting well on it. I'm a Canon guy myself and would certainly go for a 10D, but the Digital Rebel is a nice lower-cost option which is dropping in price right now. Perhaps getting ready for a new entry-level...

I'm also of the opinion that Rosenblatt cannot be supported by the CWS alone. A smaller stadium would be better though for the Royals (look at Haymarket Park in Lincoln) as far as crowd energy goes. But there is a lot that could be done in the Blatt/Zoo area as far as turning it into more of a desti...

As far as I know, Gallup's full buildout includes a couple office buildings not connected to the main building and the hotel. Concerning the hotel, I believe it will not be publicly available, used only for clients. The operation of it will not be done by Gallup and likely be contracted out. This wo...
