I don't see this in that same light --- OPS wasn't coming out saying that the suburban district weren't teaching their kids so they needed to be taken over. The president of the OPS Board came out immediately after they voted to take over the suburban schools saying that one reason OPS proceeded wa...

I have a few thoughts: 3. As a political strategy, however, this bill is a work of absolute genius. The legislature opened another front on OPS's war -- and I think it will force OPS to take annexation of the suburban districts off the table in order to talk about a peace plan that will leave the b...

Chambers kills LB 500 for this session after the business community's outcry against his OPS proposal and after the City Council rejects naming a park after him.

Re: Mavs
The one off topic area from the Knights discussion/debate, the Mavs did earn the right to be in the NCAA's this year. They met the criteria. The 9-2 loss did not do anything to dispute that. That was a combination of the Mavs having an off game, 1st time to the NCAA jitters, I believe Parse not bei...

... that's where LB 500 comes in. How much is LB 500 going to be able to raise? And how much of that is going to be diverted from existing tax revenues? (At one time, I recall that a proposals was going to siphon funds away from paying for the Qwest Center...) It's been established that a new ballp...

Who says there will be 3x the administrators? Frequently, when enterprises expand you also add additional layers of management. Where duplication will occur is in certain back-office functions such as payroll. It is humorous to see OPS react to the idea of the reaction of their district suddenly bei...

If this was the same program I heard - he also mentioned that none of the 'city elders' i.e. deep pockets - have said anything about the possibility of a new ballpark - realizing that their interest may be pretty low, their becoming a part of the funding seems at most negligible. After paying for q...

I think that Creighton is standing pat to wait and see what happens with the Royals stadium. A Royals stadium is probably going to be twice the size Lincoln's Haymarket Park. (4500 seats vs. 9000 seats) Berm seating will probably take a Royals stadium to a 13,000 capacity versus 8500 for Haymarket. ...

#1)Ill will. There is a goodly number of Lancer and Mav hockey fans who are very knowledgeable of the sport of hockey at EVERY level. These fans KNOW the Knights represent the 2nd highest level of hockey to be seen in person after the NHL. There is NO mistake about this..However, many of these fans...

Mike, I'm not faulting the media for the failure of the Knights to draw fans... I'm asking them to recognize that this is the superior brand of hockey, it's in our long term interests to support it, and that they need continue to educate the Omaha hockey going public about it. I realize you think i...

I'm not exactly sure you can say the UNO fans (of which I have been one since 1996) have not been the same, nope scratch that, some have been worse. Some UNO fans are just totally preoccupied, scared, nervous or what ever you want to say in their feelings towards the Knights. They view the Knights ...

Condescending attitude
After reading that letter, I'm not surprised by the reaction you got. Frankly, it was condescending. Back in October, the Knights got plenty of publicity from the media. The Knights squandered much of that initial publicity. They had nice sized crowds for their exhibition game and the season opener....

I'm glad pro sports will be in KC for another 25 years. I really doubt the Chiefs were in ANY danger of leaving the KC metro area. I have to believe that the Chiefs are in the top 10 of the league in attendance, since their games regularly sell out. The Royals, on the other hand, are another issue ...

Qwest Center is NOT filing to host the high school volleyball tournament. Not a surprise...the high school volleyball finals might have been swallowed whole in the Qwest Center. The atmosphere of the NU Coliseum makes that a better venue for it anyway. We'll see if Grand Island can make a reasonabl...

While I like the possibility that the old W-H building could be bulldozed, I wonder if this might open up some wonderful possibilities to replace the Qwest building in a few years. Bear me out. Bulldoze the existing WH building and make it greenspace for now. Let's let the Wall Street Tower and othe...

Those questions have all been asked, studied, and answered. And it's been said that will do great, in fact, an economic homerun. Same questions were asked for the MAC. Answered, built, and whoops, answers wrong. Same questions were asked for the Qwest convention center. Answered, built, and whoops,...

I think he's getting at the failed destination the MAC was supposed to be. I'm guessing he thinks the Royals situation will be the same. There is a huge differance between a neighborhood DT and an empty spot on the interstate by casinos. There is already enough going on in NDT without the stadium. ...

In a related development, Council Bluffs is asking for the Iowa West Foundation to forgive the remaining $12 million that Council Bluffs owes on the Mid-American Center. The Mid-America Center, which opened in 2002, is northeast of Interstates 80 and 29, near a movie theater complex and the Horsesho...

More confirmation from the Arizona Media that Thomas is going straight to the NHL from the Mavs... (no minor league hockey for BLT!) Thomas is not expected to play in Tuesday's game against the Nashville Predators. It's likely he will be eased into the lineup over the final two-plus weeks of the sea...

Re: Moving the CWS Downtown?
I wanted to start this seperate from the Royals stadium threads. Would the NCAA ever want a new stadium for the CWS? Eventually, yes. This is what I'm thinking. Say the Royals stadium is a hit and a whole new entertainment/shopping area springs up around the stadium. Rosenblatt is left in a neighbo...

Congrats to the Omaha Sports Commission for their hard work in attracting this great event. The NCAA noticed that there were alm...
