Re: Rows on South Hill (Johnston & Son Funeral Home)

Better? I Guess?

They went from looking like cheap suburban homes smushed together into row houses, to looking like a semi modern ski lodge themed apartment building. Perhaps it is just the rendering but it is hard to tell if they are still even row houses.

Re: Oak View Mall - Redevelopment Plan

I had not realized we've not had a new mall since 2006. Jordan Creek must be one of the last built in the US. I don't know when Oak View will die (probably will do well enough to survive but not thrive), but I don't ever see a true revival. I think they partly sealed their deal when they added JCPe...

You could build a parking garage and use the Mall surface lots to build apartment complexes and a hotel or two. You already have a Movie Theater and Bowling Entertainment business in the area. Focus on making the whole area walkable and improve traffic patterns, fill the food court with local food s...

If West Broadway was booming with new development, I might say try and incorporate the 1900 building into the new design but given the quality of what is replacing it I have no problem tearing it down. I have heard Veridian is entering the Council Bluffs/Omaha market in a big way. They have plans mo...

Then a couple contracts for diesel delivery, generator and HVAC maintence, lawn service, custodial, and trash removal. OPPD won't make much profit because the rate per KW wi...

Nice to see the building being reused. I am glad it wasn't torn down for something new. Not a lot of innovative or distictive new architecture is being built in Omaha, the reused buildings give us a lot of flavor that is otherwise missing.

All this project does is make me mad that the Butternet Building hasn't been at this site full of condo owners for the last 10 years.

This project is underwhelming in many ways, but another 4\6 storey apartment building in The Old Market is a very good thing.

The buildings are ugly. As for parking, forget density or decent design, wouldn't your employees rather park in an attached parking garage than 500ft away across a surface lot? Plus in a garage their cars are covered and protected from weather. Just from a practical perspective as a developer wouldn...

The best solution would be to save the house and get the developer to build the row houses elsewhere in the area.
