Re: Let's play what if

Getting back to the original topic, what if I-80 had high mast lights posted at the 84th, 72nd, 60th and 42nd Street exits and the I-80/I-480/US 75 interchange, but still had traditional street lights posted in between those exits?

Of course, if Jim Flowers had stayed at KETV all these years, that would've affected Bill Randby, too. What would've happened to him? Would he have just been a morning or weekend meteorologist at KETV? Or would he have joined WOWT and become their chief meteorologist instead? Julie Cornell would've ...

Re: Let's play what if

What if I-29 ran through Nebraska instead of Iowa thus serving Omaha directly? Then Nebraska would have a major north-south interstate route and they'd have 2 interstate highways running through it like pretty much every other state, except Maine. Fair enough. Many years ago when I was just a kid, I went for a drive with my family through small town somewhere in Nebraska. North 48th Road Diet?

How would anybody feel if North 48th Street between Holdrege and Adams Streets got a road diet? That means change it from 4 lanes (2 north, 2 south) to only 3 (1 north, 1 south and a center turn lane) with bike lanes? There aren't any plans to do that now, but if it were to happen, how would you fee...

Railroad Crossings

Railroad crossings used to be pretty common in Omaha, but not anymore. There are still some, but not very many. But for years, I've often wondered something: Why do crossings with 2 or more tracks have signs warning drivers how many tracks there are?

Can anyone explain that?

Here's a question that's been on my mind all day. It's about I-24 in southeastern Tennessee. For a brief while, it leaves the state and enters Georgia for 3 or 4 miles, then it reenters Tennessee just before Chattanooga. My question is this: What does the Tennessee Highway Patrol do about that? Are ...

Re: Reimagining the North Freeway

I have to agree with Busguy2010. Removing the North Freeway is a bad idea for the reasons he listed. If it is removed, then all those trucks that use it will have to go back onto 24th and 30th Streets. Those streets were recently given road diets, so that wouldn't help at all. Correct me if I'm wron...

When I look at Omaha on Google Earth and I look at historical satellite imagery, I'm actually amazed at how its grown over the last 30-40 years. The furthest back they go is 1984. And Omaha looked like a roughly small city at the time compared to today. Almost the size of Fargo and Sioux Falls.
