Re: North Downtown Truck Route
Reviewing some recent MECA board minutes, one reoccurring report from Jay Noddle is progress on a truck route. MECA is watching it closely. Mr. Noddle even says there was some acquisitions by the City to make the truck route possible during one of the meetings. I think we have discussed this in par...

Re: Gene Leahy Mall Remodel
I too was downtown yesterday afternoon and noticed how busy the parks were. Also very encouraging -- the crowd spilled over into the Old Market. That was about as busy as I've seen the Old Market in a long time. Good to hear...I could tell it was busy over there. I was downtown on Saturday for the ...

I saw this video a long time ago... it's the typical youtuber with the east or west coast flyover mindset, which has never been to Nebraska Nick Johson, a youtuber known to visit the ghettos, the good and the bad sides of cities. Visited midwest cities in a row, KC, Des Moines and a few others. He ...

I just don't get why they are spending so much time on something that has almost no chance of it happening. Can't he just work to keep making NEX bigger and better without these crazy sketches of adding high rises and 18,000 seat arenas? He seems like the sort of manchild that needs the spotlight o...

Jokes aside, if this is lot only becomes a 4+1, I will be sad, mostly because it was previously rumored for a mixed use high rise development. Please be at least 8 stories, please! Maybe my standards are too low but I would say even a 4+1 is better than a parking lot! We can do better for such a pr...

Re: Downtown Omaha Master Plan
No one is seriously suggesting getting rid of all cars. But that doesn't mean that we have to further promote their use, especially not downtown (which, I'll remind everyone, what this thread is about). If car usage can be reduced anywhere in Omaha, it is downtown. If people in the rest of the city...

Looks like our dew point is supposed to hit -3 tonight. Relative humidity is supposed to be 70%, but that ain't saying much. I'll be surprised if it snows at all. We got just enough snow to cover parts of the grass. It'll record as a trace, if that. It might as well not even have happened in my boo...

Re: 13th and William Revitalization
I agree that South 13th needs pedestrian improvements. We must consider that the street is an Omaha truck route. Until the that traffic is moved to 24th Street and Hwy 75, nothing will change on South 13th. https://publicworks.cityofomaha.org/images/2020_Truck_Routes_with_Notation.pdf Out of curios...

Blackstone started out with a much higher residential density to support that many bars.PotatoeEatsFish wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 5:29 am I feel like this neighborhood will be more successful than Blackstone eventually. The focus is on housing, not how many bars can we shove on a single street.

There just isn't quite the residential density in the area to support the number of bars/restaurants through the week. It's a shame, because the building stock is great, and any restaurateur can envision a cool spot in any of those old brick buildings.
