Re: New Veterans Hospital
I agree, with all of the requirements VA has created for itself, there is no way St. Joe could meet its needs. It's hard enough designing a new hospital from the ground up that meets all of their regulations. A more fundamental question is "Why does the VA need it's own hospitals in the first p...

I'm pretty sure I left my nearly new Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencil in the City Council chamber. It was a stocking-stuffer present from my grandfather who fought in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. I want the City to give me a replacement now.

I worked downtown for over 13 years and never had much trouble with beggars at all. The few times they did ask for change "for the bus", they moved on quickly if I said I didn't have anything or ignored them. One time a guy asked me for money when I was at an ATM and I told him I was calli...

Re: Lawyer who lost $500 pen at courthouse asks Douglas Coun
The question should be...is there really any law on the books that would require the city or county to be responsible for reimbursing somebody for lost property in city/county-owned buildings? If so, does it only apply to property over a certain value? I hope the answer is no to the former. The valu...

I think I remember TD saying employee preference was the main reason they chose the Old Mill area. I'm getting used to seeing them out there and don't really mind the density of Old Mill Increasing. That pretty well sums up the current state of skyscaper affairs in Omaha. I would like to add that there was a sacrifice even with our current favorite high-rise: the 45-story - 634 ft tall FNB tower. The 17 Story, 251 ft. tall 1926 Medical Arts Building was imploded in 1999 to make way for the FNB ...

I'll take the early 1900's version of that any day. It looks like there may be a nice terracota or stone cornice hidden under the angled metal cornices that are there now. I've seen that happen to a number of buildings where a metal roofing company will come along and offer to cover-up deteriorating...

Thanks for the images! Not a big fan of the architecture, though... Agreed. While the buildings may end-up being detailed nicely, the overall layout doesn't really do much for the 30th St./Hwy 75 side. There is a strong east-west axis between the buildings that just kind of dies when it gets to 30t...

1.2 M sounds like a big number, but the rate of growth is much slower here than say, the sunbelt. So we'll actually be even less densely populated by comparison to other places, than we are now. Our metro will likely have fallen further behind other metro areas, but population density may still fav...

I would guess one reason most dealers are moving further west has to do with needing more land to keep larger inventories, as much as any other reason.
