Great to see the cranes up and construction well underway for Berkshire this year. That is a lot of eyes, many that have never been to Omaha before, seeing progress. Just wish we were going to have better weather this year.

CB has really done some great things in the past 10-15 years with their downtown. I have read and noticed that they have a different idea about the old buildings than Omaha does. CB tries to restore the buildings whenever possible, I am not so sure Omaha has the same mentality.

It is hard to tell from the construction cam but it does look like there are a bunch of panels on a trailer and also on the ground.

Does anyone know if each floor of the hotel is going to be concrete?

My only concern is that it seems like this type of construction works best for 7-8 stories. This building was supposed to be 12. So I am wondering how it will work with the remaining 11 floors.

Thanks for the info Lillian Bean. According to that website, it states that it is ideal for mid-rise residential projects such as Apartments, Condos, Lofts, Student Housing, Hotels and Senior Living Facilities up to seven or eight stories in height.

I thought the apt building was supposed to be 12 stories, so I wouldn't think that they would be switching to wood construction for the rest.

And Brad, I was going to ask if you have ever seen switching from steel to concrete. I am no construction expert, but that doesn't seem logical to me.

There has to be demand there to warrant such a building. The price per sq ft is going to be pretty expensive in a 32 story tower. Des Moines did have a proposal for a 32 story building, but the chances of that happening are probably next to nothing. They also had a 17 story residential tower on top ...

I forgot that they owned those lots to the south, but now I remember that they acquired those while the CWS was still at Rosenblatt. During that time, they used them for parking for zoo visitors.

That is good to hear that they are attempting to expand the acres that the zoo already offers. They are land locked, but if they were able to acquire some more land, you have to think that would open up even more development and larger areas for the animals to roam.

Being from CB, I love those. I think that CB has the best collection of old buildings in the entire metro. Omaha would have it beat, if not for tearing everything down for the Leahy Mall and worst of all, the State office building.

I just noticed that they drained some of the area where you walk over the fish and rays on the lower level. It looked to be a little more extensive than just cleaning. Also in the past few years they have added the area where the bats fly around. There are a few exhibits in the jungle that could use...

Great pictures. I love what the zoo is doing, taking a great thing and making it better. I also like that they are still updating and adding little features to some of the older exhibits like the jungle.
