What's JD Tucker's and where is it? On 10th, just north of Howard.  Its a sportsbar.  It gets a pretty good crowd on weekends, and whenever there's any sort of major local (Creighton BB, Husker Football) or national sporting event. The same owner is opening the Stadium Club right next door.  Its...

The first floor of the 1002 condo building on Dodge is empty, and for that matter the first floor of the Ford Warehouse condos is empty.  Either site would work for this kind of project, but I don't know as I'd be that excited about the location.  There isn't a Qwest event every night of the week. ...

I don't like to gloat, but darn, that was one heck of an accurate guess on my part.  It wasn't so out of left field though, when you look at the hard #s of the situation.  That's the fastest growing area in the metro, Alegent's smallest current hospital (not counting their rural health facilities)...

What ever happened to this proposal for a WalMart at the Ranchbowl site?  Last I can remember, the city and Walmart were reaching some sort of a compromise on design.  Needless to say, its been many months since this last made news, and nothing has done yet.   Is it still going to happen, with wh...

wow..... $20 million.  I don't know who'd be dumb enough to go ahead and buy the building at that price.  Assuming that 10 or so of the originally announced 140 condos are already sold, that leaves 130 to spread that $20 MM over (and potentially sell and reap a profit).  That's just over $150,000...

don't hold your breath on the winebar.  That place was announced with much fanfare back when I was living there about a year ago - "Freeze" was the name if I remember correctly.  They started advertising, selling memberships (some sort of a discount card), but construction never started....

Purely a guess on my part, but the logical place for growth for them would most likely be an addition or possibly a second tower at Lakeside Hospital.  I'm a supplier to Alegent's laboratory services at all of the hospitals, and Lakeside has grown quicker than anyone could have imagined.  They are...

Interesting news to report.  I ran into one of the builders in the hallway, and he said Prudential Ambassador's contract to represent the building isn't being renewed.  Apparently, to better market the penthouse units (as there are only a handful of other units left on the other floors), they felt...

we've got about 5 threads on the 902 dodge st building, but this appears to be the most recent, so Chef in reply to your message, here's a bit more of an update.  After months of using the 1st floor as a storage space for construction materials for the condos, it looks like they're finally building...

I don't know if this was common knowledge or not, but I was talking to someone that works for one of the subcontractors on the Brandeis project yesterday and thought I'd pass this along.  All work has been stopped on unfinished units until the liens are taken care of.   They were told by their man...

This should probably be under a stadium club thread (if one exists), but the question was posed here, so I thought I'd answer it here. I've asked that question (combining of the spaces) of the bartenders on one of my many frequent trips to JD Tuckers.  The Stadium Club (former Das Rheinland) will b...

Pfizer to close Omaha manufacturing site

As part of Pfizer's 10,000 person layoff announced today, all operations at their Omaha animal vaccine manufacturing site will be shut down.  About the only good news for Nebraska is that their Lincoln site survived untouched (beyond the 300 layoffs previously announced), and may potentially even g...

If I remember correctly Kaneko owns the entire south side of the block on Jackson between 11th and 12th (where the studio is), and I believe that he also has space/lives in the building on the NE corner of 12 and Jackson (the building behind the JLofts sales office).

Not that websites are constantly updated, but burlingtonstation.com only shows 2 of the 12 units as sold.  That's not a real good sign.  Given the lack of sales and no progress on this project, I've got to wonder if this is going to end up in the permanently stalled state it is.   Just thinking o...

A massive rebar cylinder (probably  at least 50 feet tall, 6 or 8 feet wide) has shown up on the Omaha side of the ped bridge.  My best guess is that this is one of the legs for the tower that will be on the Omaha bank.  While there's definitely been progress, I wouldn't have thought that they we...

Omaha off the Homeland Security urban grant list

Earlier this week, the DHS announced its list of cities eligible for money under its urban preparedness program.  We had received $8.3 mil last year under the program, and I believe that UNMC's biocontainment unit construction was funded under this grant in prior years. Last year, NYC complained ab...

Hawkeye- While I'd love to believe that Omaha has a chance, given our size and beautiful arena in the Qwest center,  our experience with the Knights have shown the professional sports world that we just won't drum up the support necessary for any pro team.  I don't blame this all on Nebraskans - I...

Another odd fact

Did you know?? Ford was the only US president to have never been elected to the office?   All other VPs that replaced acting presidents mid-term were re-elected.  Ford was the only one to be defeated in his actual run when he lost in '76 to Jimmy Carter.  He wasn't even elected to VP, as he was a...

Major Corporate Headquarters in North Downtown?

Anyone have more info on the following from Jeff Beals' column in the City Weekly? Rumors are also floating around that a major corporation plans to build an office campus in North Downtown. Whomever it is, that'd be a major boost for the North Downtown area, and possibly Omaha as a whole if they're...

I wouldn't be surprised if the SOMA developers try and buy the property, demolish the existing structure, and just build more of their townhomes.  It seems to be the logical thing for them to do, given the success of that development and the proximity to their current units....
