Re: UNO's "Baxter Arena" @ Aksarben

There is still hope that the arena will look nice at night. I agree that the arena should have been built nearer Center Street with parking in the back. I can't understand why the experienced professionals who designed it didn't think so.

Re: UNO's "Baxter Arena" @ Aksarben

As a fairly regular visitor to the Aksarben area (mostly by bicycle), we've enjoyed seeing the construction progress during the past five months. I really wanted to like this arena, but the exterior is so bland. The rest of Aksarben, including UNO's dorms, looks quite nice. As far as location, UNO s...

Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District

Omaha won with Heartland of America Park and with the CenturyLink, but I've often wondered how things would be if the two had switched positions. A park with an enclosed lake is very nice, but it is just unfortunate that it happens to block the river front. Having the lake west of the Bob Kerry Brid...

Re: 2015 NCAA Volleyball

Nebraska will be very good as usual, but we won't know if they a really a top 5 team until we see how the new setter is. Aside from the most important position, they certainly have an experienced team coming back. Stanford lost their best player to injury and BYU lost their 6'7" star hitter to ...

Re: Observation Tower

Why was the bridge was built north of the central river front area? It would make more sense to me if the attractions were less spread out by having the bridge entrance closer to Storz Trophy Room. At Lewis & Clark Landing/Storz Trophy, there is basically a cap over all of the lead-contaminated...

Re: Volleyball World Grand Prix

What was the total attendance for the event? I haven't seen total numbers, but yesterday's reported attendance for the noon USA-China match was 8,500. I went to every game and I could not see that there were more people than when the US played other matches with 5,500 reported. Among the five visit...

Re: Volleyball World Grand Prix

The night game had a few more people than on the first night. The lower bowl ends were still 95% empty. However the games yesterday seemed to be more entertaining. Tonight's Russia-US game should be a lot of fun. Both teams have looked very impressive. Japan is also generally fun to watch. They have...

Re: Volleyball World Grand Prix

I attended all three games yesterday. I had bought two tickets last December to get good seats at mid-court near the top of the lower bowl. We, like everyone else, moved down even closer to the court. I would have had the same seats if I bought the tickets yesterday. We are going to all five days an...

Re: Bank of the West Celebrates America 6/26/15

I was at the concert. Eddie Money was fine, but we were very surprised that Joan Jett still looked and sounded like she did in the early 80s. Their songs are mostly simple, but her voice was still as clear and edgy as before. My favorite of the night was the band playing their version of Crimson and...

FIVB Volleyball in Omaha

For volleyball fans or fans of international events, this is the finals of the top FIVB volleyball event this year and the first time it is held in the US . The group includes the traditional tops teams of China, Russia, and Brazil if they qualify as expected in the early rounds. There hasn't been a...

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

The jays played with heart and gave a tough Georgetown team all they could handle. I'll remember this year's team as one with a lot of heart. I'm impressed that team chemistry stayed positive and played with a lot of passion despite the losses.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

Artino played possessed and I was happy to finally see my dream line-up of Grosselle and Hanson in the game together at the same time for a little while in the first half. Against a big Georgetown team, Hanson might get more time at the four spot tomorrow. Speaking of Georgetown, I prefer that Creig...

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

I think there is no doubt they will be more successful next year, at least record wise.  They are looking at finishing maybe 14-18 this year.  I feel pretty confident that they will better that record.  Still not expecting much top 25 play next year but at least 4-5 games over .500. That's what I'm...

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

I appreciate the players' effort again last night, but I was also frustrated with the coach's decision to have Artino in the game for the final seconds.  When Nova needed a basket in the final minute, they drew up a play for one of their best scorers.  Creighton doesn't have the same offensive tale...

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

Fun win on the road. I've been a big proponent of Geoff Groselle since the beginning of the season, but hats off last night for Will Artino. He played a very good game along with his usual effort.

Unfortunately all three times have had the same player guarding the guy who took the last shot. Dingman has had a tough year.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

I was happy to see that the coach left Groselle in the game for long enough stretches so that Groselle could get into the flow of the game. With more experience, I think that he is going to be a very good big man next year, especially offensively.

Re: Creighton Basketball 2014-2015

Long time reader, first time poster. A couple of thoughts about last night's game: I've been a big Coach McDermott supporter, but I question his decision to leave three small guards on the court during the final 15 seconds when we needed a defensive stop and a rebound. We still had two timeouts left...
