Re: New HDR Corporate Headquarters

Just left the meeting. What a joke. No plans. The only thing to come out was that the city confirmed 16 story tower, 7 story garage. Little talk of the historic buildings. It was all HDR lot approval. And it was approved. A few people stood up and represented for preservation, one dude knocked it ou...

Re: Holland's Greenspace

I smell a rat. I read the article in the OWH---this all sounds so hastily thrown together; the plans sound vague/indefinite/rushed. What bothers me the most is Gottshnalk's connection to the OWH (former publisher) and the tone of the story. A little 'old-boy' back scratching going on? What exactly ...

Re: Holland's Greenspace

I'm a little more optimistic. The OPA isn't a corporate giant that can muscle people out as easily. I think they'll reach a compromise where they take down the coffee house on 11th but keep the others. It still hasn't been explained why they can't just use the garage across the street... Why do ANY...

I just walked up to downtown Benson and now that the sidewalk project is done, it's painfully apparent that the city of Omaha screwed up the look and feel of this neighborhood. Lazy-i.com mentioned today the rumored music venue slated for Blackstone. I would not be surprised at all, given the apparent rift between him and Saddle Creek, that this is a new venture backed by Conor Oberst and it will be at the Hotel Frank location.

I'll have to find pics of the first two, but the Catholic Sokol Hall on south 13th is covered by cladding.

Also, Keiwit's HQ building used to look way different.

And to answer the question posted above, Central Park Towers used to be the Henshaw Hotel:

The top three floors and the base of the old Northwestern Bell building (with the microwave antennae) were heavily modified in the 60's. You can still see the old arch windows that were covered up if you look through the current windows on the second to top floor.

I'm having a fun time thinking about what we can have if we rebuild the street grid and keep the lake. Imagine that! The possibilities are huge for this site. It's possible, but it'll be a long, long, time and cost a lot, a lot, of money. Perfect opportunity for a guy like Warren Buffett perhaps?
