The City continues to work with the development community to adopt new rules. Unfortunately, without thier (at least grudging)support they will not fly. As for 4 corners, it isn't going to happen at the intersection like you may be referring simply because the size of the streets prevents it from wo...

I can generally find a beer or two at any that I like but JC has more of them than Upstream. The Dundee scotch ale at upstream might be the best in town though IMO. I tried a 6 pack of the cherry wheat and didnt mind it. I also tried my first Empyrean beer and it wasnt too bad really either... Maybe...

You didnt like Raccoon River? I have always had good food and drink there. It is indeed all about opinion. How about the Court Ave Brewery? Good luck for me too on that one. I'd take either of these over any of the other chains we are talking about. I may give Granite another shot but so far the ser...

There is precious little that those neighbors would have liked though. Besides, its not really for them to choose who goes there. Its pretty tough to pick and choose if your going to allow commercial on that site. Overall, its still a Wal-Mart but its the best one in town and thats a start. There is...

After working in Iowa and then comming to Omaha I was amazed at the SID process. I am not a fan of the methodology or the outcome myself. Development should happen in cities, not outside of them. Financing should also not be done in such a way that developers have little incentive to control cost or...

They should have been a little more careful in their financial planning! Unfortunately they may have gotten the short end but far more often the City gets stuck with extra debt and the SID residents taxes go down once annexed. The debt ratios allowed of modern SIDs are fairly high so its not often t...

There is indeed a law (ordinance) regarding street naming and a number of conventions that are followed... First, Dodge had to change to W. Dodge road because it moves north and would have fouled up the rest of the grid. Second, most of the names used were decided a long time ago and so they may not...

I think that the DSM issue got raised because they have done well despite a much smaller population. A worthy issue to be sure. In the end the Omaha metros numbers are growing and it certainly could provide increased opportunity if properly managed. Des Moines also seems to lack as strict of design ...

You may see a WM in North O sometime, its been considered by the folks in Ark. Normally cities are quick to annex Wal Mart If development is done right you wouldnt have to worry about annexing the WM after it opens. There should be no development occuring if its not already in the city. I can't adju...

Well, they have pretty much everything Omaha has for one, despite the lower population. I would say the amount and quality of development is of far higher quality (due in part to the suburbs greater requirements) as well. The market is also stronger in some ways as witnessed by the fact that the fai...

The WalMart discussions were quite interesting and in the end Omaha is getting about all we could given the position we are in today. A couple of years from now we might be in a stronger position. Generally, however, all its ever about it how to dress up the box and how to obscure it with green. Wal...

Numbers are important but buzz and good jobs and high incomes matter more when it comes to getting all this great stuff you are all talking about. Case in point, Des Moines has as much or more going on than Omaha in some ways and as stated earlier a smaller pop. If we can just get the Royals sold to...

The really sad part is that most of those pictures don't show anything new... That park has been mostly that nice for years since its last overhaul... There really should have been an access to the east from the commercial corner. The plan for a bridge was indeed in place prior to all of the housing. Unfortunately, whining residents almost always carry a lot of weight (more so than good traffic planning anyway). The lack of a connection will, in t...
