I grew up in the distant past. The 1960s and 1970s. Having just returned from my annual trek to Key West, Florida, I’m always reminded each time I visit of the fact that non auto-centric communities do exist in the U.S. Probably more so than almost any small city in this country, Key West is designed to be bicycle, mass transit and walker friendly. I think it does have to do with being in a floodplain. Since the giant floods that inundated that neighborhood repeatedly in the 1960s it was my understanding that no more housing was allowed within the floodplain. Commercial businesses were not prohibited, however. There has essentially been no new...

I’ve only eaten at Inner Rail 3 or 4 times in the 4 years since it opened. Generally I found a $20 bill might or might not cover your meal, with a couple dollars tossed in the tip jar. Metro LA has a population somewhere around 20,000,000. Las Vegas is about 2,000,000. That’s almost 20 times the combined population of Lincoln and Omaha. And they still don’t have high speed passenger rail between those 2 cities.
I’m not sure how much more you need to consider.
