A friend of mine who was a department manager at Hy-Vee for nearly 20 years lost his job about 10 days ago. He said the management ranks are being thinned. I’ll tell you a funny but true story. My mother was Italian. She made certain foods a certain way. For example, while growing up, she made us kids Cream of Wheat or Oatmeal.. with butter and (get this) SALT. It wasn't the only way my mom made cream of wheat but she did the butter and salt thing too.

For the first 36 or 37 years of my life I used ketchup with my steak. My dad too. I remember once or twice someone calling me out on it. Is there a restaurant in Omaha that requires you to dress up? I'm pretty sure every restaurant in Omaha will allow you to dine in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops (and probably not even bat an eye when you arrive in that getup). I'm not sure a "coat and tie required" place would succeed ...

The Casey's location on north 156th toward Bennington is still fairly new and just gets swamped with pizza orders. I have no idea what Mutual is going to do or why. However, these sustained low treasury rates and their outlook are a huge headwind to the insurance industry. With the Fed turning again to easing monetary policy, this cannot be a reason for optimism at MOO or the industry.
