Re: Logan Building to go Apartments (18th and Dodge)

Anybody heard anything about this moving forward? With the success of Slate and The Wire, this would seem to be a pretty safe bet for a profitable re-development as an apartment building.

Re: Kansas City Streetcar

The system only cost $100 million to build? With 20% of that covered by a federal grant? That should be very doable for Omaha. Isn't that exactly how much the elevated expressway cost? I like their idea of paying for part of it by having an area sales tax within the areas where the streetcar runs. G...

Why would someone want to [currently] open a restaurant or a non-niche store in the Holland Greenspace area? You would get virtually zero evening traffic except on performance nights at Holland. This will all change though once the Capitol District + HDR's ground-level retail parking garage are buil...

A good place for them could be the southeast corner of 10th & Capitol. Originally Shamrock was going to build something there, but it doesn't look like that panned out, so the city probably owns that land again...? At the very least I don't see why they couldn't save the facade of the Specht bui...

I know they helped pay for the study, but is there coordination on how to actually pay for building the streetcar itself? That's obviously the biggest hurdle. I think any type of Streetcar or fixed-rail transit system is going to be a complete non-starter until there is some coordinated effort between businesses (Mutual of Omaha, UNMC, FNB would probably be the main ones) and private donors to show that they are willing to give some money toward the proje...

I don't see why they wouldn't design it to be at least 321 feet to be able to place it at third-tallest in Omaha. But then again, UP could have easily made their building third-tallest instead of fourth and they didn't. I guess we shall see on Wednesday.

One upside to it being two separate structures instead of one structure taking up the entire city block is that one day far into the future, there is the possibility that the parking garage structure could be demolished and re-developed into another office tower, or residential, etc.

I'd be a little worried if this was only happening in Omaha, but it is certainly a pretty clear development trend to also re-vitalize neighborhoods close to the core (and the downtowns also) instead of solely building out suburbs in just about every major city in the country, so I think it's more ju...

Um... the existing parking garage to the north is closer to the Holland than the HDR surface lot they are using now.

And of course, there's plenty of room to build some sort of parking garage on the existing greenspace without touching the buildings.

It just doesn't make any sense.

Our airport is in just about the most ideal distance from our downtown that you could hope for. Not so close that it inhibits our skyscrapers (all two of them..... :( ), but certainly still very close compared to other cities. So that helps a lot, hotel wise.
