Re: North Omaha Development Project
I think any concerns over development in North Omaha is fully warranted. The only projects approved should have only affordable housing or else the area will become like any other “redevelopment” in town like Blackstone and Benson where the rent for original residents is raised till they are pushed...

I still need to go through those documents too, but I don't mind the Double Tree where it is. A pedestrian tunnel would be perfect. A passthrough for cars would be not terrible too. I know I've stayed there, and I've put relatives there. It's a fine hotel for the area. I'd say it has at least 20 ye...

Just saying from my relatively quiet corner... This building has no meritable qualities other than jamming more people into Midtown. I'm not going to reach any further than just saying I don't know how anyone would defend this development. Its ugly, it closes a street, there's zero attempt to cue o...

Sorry for getting off topic, but to add to the actual conversation: I think many of us are extremely disappointed to see another aspect of the moving around of the library we’re already decided by the people in powers in Omaha, without consultation of the citizens.

The idea of pedestrian skywalks around intersections represent about disregard for pedestrians imo. If you’ve ever been to Vegas, where they have sad sidewalks corralled in, and the only way to cross the highway running through the strip is to go up onto bridges across intersections, then yuck exper...

Re: Official: Omaha Streetcar Discussion
I don't think we should muddy the waters by trying a hybrid system. I've tried to drive the nail many times that it never would work. MUNI is "light rail" toward its inbound terminus. In Omaha it would be light rail toward the outbound terminus, and having a streetcar portion would defeat...

Re: Mutual Tower on the Library Lot
For the height obsessed if they end up exactly at 634 the Mutual building would most likely appear slightly shorter than the FNBO tower as it’s just a bit downhill. Still will look great at that height obviously. Didn’t mayor stothert said the library site was actually higher up unless I heard that...

I will add to the discourse on whether to expand ORBT that if a public transportation system isn’t complete and can’t get riders within a reasonable distance of their destination, then people won’t use it. This is why my view has shifted away from supporting a streetcar unless it’s funded privately....

Personally I find a distracting logo on a great building distasteful, but Omaha is not in the position to be telling companies not to do it. We haven’t had a high rise constructed in over twenty years in a city that hs had pretty robust population and economic growth.

I think Omaha will fare perfectly fine without a pro sports team. They suck tax dollars away from other useful programs (like transport that we already don’t spend enough on here). I think the city is developing a character and pride without the pro sports team to drive it.

They probably seem skewed because the picture of racial equality and equity doesn’t look even remotely great in America. Omaha might have even seen less segregation at one point in time than it does in 2021, at least when it comes to measure like the school districts. I’m not trying to make a claim,...
