I also find it shocking when people attach rail transport because it must be subsidized and "doesn't turn a profit," yet are seemingly blind to the massive public investment that goes in to building and maintaining our road infrastructure.  Of course, that's the modus operandi of conserva...

I'm becoming more impressed with Nebraska media every day.

I'm almost picturing Ron Burgundy and the rest of the Anchorman staff running the joint.

Who is that guy?  He sounds to me like a more lame version of Dane Cook.  I was waiting for him talk about hitting a little kid with the yellow pages.

That's not surprising, since he tried to completely isolate himself from the world for the past 50 years.

I was also disappointed to see that Iowa didn't get any of the high-speed rail funding in this round.  I'm really hoping it will be done, hopefully soon (and not 20 years from now), as my wife and I plan on taking the train to Illinois from Omaha to visit our families. All in all, though, I can und...

I'm not an Apple guy, so I may be biased, but the iPad just looks like a giant iPod Touch to me.

They should add in GSM voice capability and call it the iJitterbug, lol.

My old math instructor from community college actually found his brother on there:

Not surprisingly, he's from rural Iowa.

Wow, that's some amazing development.  It looks like they are really trying to have a good mix of uses and styles that contribute to vibrant neighborhoods. It's still a little difficult to picture a law school in a building that clearly looks like an old factory. One of those buildings looks almost...

An uncle of mine went on vacation in Mexico some years ago where the biggest car he could rent was a Toyota Tercel (he's always driven Lincoln Towncars).  He described the potholes on the Pan-American highway as so large he had to slowly creep into and back out of them.

Wow, I would have thought any numbnut reporter would have realized that an entire locomotive weighs a whole lot more than 8,000 lbs and worth a heck of a lot more than $45,000! Some mentally-unstable kid did actually "steal" a locomotive here in central Illinois last year.  He had done en...

Well, I'm not in Omaha yet, but my wife and I will be moving out in June as I've accepted a job and we just got an apartment. The main reason we looked at Omaha is because I was offered a job at Kiewit.  I also had prospects with companies in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs, but once we came out to...

Thanks again for the friendly welcome.  My wife and I made the (grueling) 8-hour drive out there on Saturday, toured apartments for 5 hours, and then made the 8-hour drive back home.  I still think the lack of sleep was still worth saving a night at a hotel. We looked at quite a range of places fr...

Thanks for the suggestions guys/gals.  We are definitely going to check out the Colbert building, but St. Regis does not allow pets.  For those who wonder, they are managed by Duda Realty (http://www.dudarealty.com/index.cfm) who also manages some other historic buildings in the Midtown area.  To...

I agree that the countdown crosswalks are a great idea all around.  They give everyone in the intersection a much better idea of what is going on. We have quite a few here in Champaign-Urbana, including some that make various noises, including talking!  Some emit a rythmic "dink, dink, dink&q...

I really don't understand why there are so many donors willing to fork over big money for these ostentatious "landmarks."  We have one here at U of I.  It sticks out like a sore thumb and is redundant with another carillon at the other end of the quad, yet while the university is running...

Midtown Apartments

Hey all, I've been a lurker for a couple months so I figured I ought to actually sign up. My wife and I will be moving to Omaha in June when I start working at Kiewit.  We're in the process of looking for apartments now so I thought I'd post and see if any of you on the forum had suggestions.  We ...
