3) Â Gas prices. Â Not the cost of fuel to get to the games for the local or semi local people but the impact on disposable income. Â My guess is the economy in general, not specifically fuel prices. The casual attendees are just putting off trips and other non-essential expensive items. I skipped...

That's what I was thinking. Â I would have guessed mid 50's I knew he was older than I am (I am mid 50s, but I don't admit it) and the first Carlin album I got was FM and AM, and that was like when I was a senior in HS, IIRC. I kind of assumed he was 30-ish back then. If he was born in 1937, that c...

I think Omaha is a great city, and I anxiously await each time I dine at the Applebee's steakhouse in Council Bluffs 3 or 4 times a year on my way up to Sioux City. This pretty much robs you of any credibility as far as opinion of Omaha. 3 or 4 times a year you come through here and..... go to the ...

Besides Ross' there was the Sparetime (much like Ross'), Sparetime on 72nd? I distinctly remember Sparetime in the Little Italy district, maybe 1979 or so. It was on the south side of Pierce by the tracks. I remember dining at Sparetime well, but I never remember one by that name on 72nd. If I reme...

Bob (Swift) and I went to get some lunch at Dixie Quicks today. Â The crews were there filming. Â The guy at the door informed us, however, that the show pretty much had control of the restaurant that day... Â They weren't even taking orders. Â You would just get what they brought you out. I just noticed tonight that Google Maps now has Street View for Omaha as well as a large chunk of eastern Nebraska for that matter. Most of the routes covered are in west Omaha with a few also in south Omaha and downtown. It looks like the photos were taken around spring time of last year...but I c...

Ah, I just hope that the streetcar system doesn't turned into something only by tourists, but embraced by everyone and used as a mean of public transport. Agree. I really wanna see some serious transit, as opposed to a tourist curiosity or a retro carnival ride type of thing! It's gonna take some t...

I don't mean to take this off topic, but what was that restaurant called that used to exist just southeast of 84th and Center with a Cadillac crashing through the top of its facade? Pink Poodle Steakhouse in Crescent, Iowa, Big Fred's Pizza Garden , I really wouldn't call either of the above dives by any means. Pink Poodle is really the typical small town steak house, but with a doll collection that seems to get smaller over time. Big Fred's is a very respectable pizza-pasta p...

Cool... Â I've always liked this show, and it'll be neat to see some local establishments portrayed. Â While the list that they've got isn't bad, I've always thought Dixie Quick's (19th and Leavenworth) would be a perfect spot for them to shoot... I do wonder if this will result in Frontier pulling out of Omaha. Â I hope not, as I like that airline a lot, but they are already in Bankruptcy Court. Re: Governor Heinamen - writes letter to halt carter lake ca
Very good points here ... we need to get the bankruptcy rate data for the entire Omaha metropolitan area 'before and after' the IOWA casinos opened up, I think we can assume that if there could be any inference of bankruptcy, hardship, crime, etc., resulting from the Iowa casinos, that the anti-casi...

Thank you Dave, you have given me another reason to be embarrassed by another one of your many political stances.. This high-horse anti-casino attitude makes me want to regurgitate! it would be so amazing if Omaha and Council Bluffs never removed trolleys. Â If they were around, I'd park the car and ride to work. It's amazing how extensive the trolley system was in its heyday.
