Re: Downtown parking update?

Also parking garages probably seem less safe to people when it's just a parking garage, instead of a parking garage with some sort of retail/commercial activity on the bottom. Maybe this is the perfect opportunity for a free from 5PM-3AM Old Market parking garage that has retail and such on the bott...

Re: Downtown parking update?

Doesn't Kansas City have a free parking garage for the Plaza district? Although that's probably a much different situation since it's pretty far from downtown so you wouldn't have people trying to park there all day for work. Several. Some are on the roofs of buildings and some are in the basements...

Re: Holland's Greenspace

Am I the only one who dislikes the Gene Leahy Mall? I hate how it destroyed a lot of neat 2-3 story buildings and also made it basically impossible for businesses to thrive on Douglas St along GLM. We have very few of those thin, older historical 2-3 story "main street" type buildings left...

Something else I would possibly like to see in the future is for UNO to build a building or two downtown and start up a "Downtown Campus". A great many universities around the country have done this. I think I saw in the projects never built section some plans that mentioned UNO doing some...

And while we're on the topic, I think highway 75 would be a great "boulevardization" opportunity as well and open up a huge corridor for development. I think this is just as much of a pipe dream though. Yeah, that one being turned into a boulevard is a looooong way off, if ever. It's a ne...

Re: Omaha 2025

I believe they are advocating turning I-480 back into a Hwy 6 Boulevard, a removal of the elevated interstate, not the removal per se of that route. You could then, maybe, finally put a bridge across the Missouri north of the airport and connect the North Freeway with I-680 on the Iowa side ... Div...

My realistic wish-list: 1. More redevelopment between 20th & 28th street between Dodge & Harney -- that area is currently so desolate and un-inviting. The two Highline projects and the 24th & Farnam hotel are good first steps. 2. The 13th street corridor coming alive again. There is some...

Well they already have s courtyard. If they wanted to have something outside in s larger scale they should put on a Julliard in the park thing across the street. I think that ideally they would build a new HQ on a surface lot somewhere else within downtown and vacate their current lot so the city could open it up for development. I think the rectangle of 10th to 16th, Jackson up to Farnam needs to ideally be filled as much as possible with buildings that all...

It is so unfortunate that this giant monstrosity is:

A. One of the tallest buildings in the city

and

B. Apparently very, very important

and

C. Also apparently almost impossible to get rid of because of said importance

Someone should start a petition to lobby the mayor to encourage the building to be demolished and redeveloped. Even though the AT&T building is 100x uglier, I'd rather see the Red Box be torn down and re-developed first. But yeah, the AT&T building needs to come down at some point. It's one...

I'm hoping this is as close to 300 feet tall as possible but really my main wish is that this has some sort of ground level retail space.

I would take 200 feet with ground floor retail over 300 feet of all office any day of the week. Mixed use is absolutely key in my book, not height.

Well that would be a good start at least. Would probably be smarter to wait for some federal funding even though it would delay it a few years.

It would be nice to have a north-south route added on. And Aksarben Village although I can't really think of a good way for the streetcar to get there.

In my opinion, if a project is receiving TIF assistance, it needs to be held to a higher architectural standard. Don't ask for TIF and then erect some cheap, bland piece of sh** right on the main corridor into downtown.
