Re: Permanently Closing Restaurants
I think there is certainly some cannibalization going on. There is only so much $ to go around. However, over the past few months the amount of $ going around has drastically shrunk. Mark's, one of my favorite restaurants in the city, didn't change their business plan because of Blackstone or Little...

If we want to have a strong transit system, we need density, and especially close to our transit nodes. This is why the current TOD plans are so important. This 95 room hotel will replace 5 living spaces (2 empty duplexes, 1 empty house). This hotel is in no way out of scale/character with the surro...

Article in the World Herald today about this development. Hard to tell too much about the design from the renderings, but they seem like a good fit form-wise in the neighborhood. Nice that it replaces dilapidated/vacant lots and will be for sale rather than rental too.

Re: Heartwood Preserve (144th Dodge/Pacific)
I am pretty hopeful for this project. I think it is a long-term thing. A comparable development (at least in my mind) is Daybreak, in South Jordan, UT which is a suburb of Salt Lake City and about 30 min from downtown SLC. It has been being developed for 20 years (though at 4,000 acres it is 8x the...

Drove around some of the finished roads in this area last weekend and though I am a big fan of mixed use lifestyle centers, I share Cermak's lack of enthusiasm. This makes me think the plans for mixed use development here have fallen through. Too bad if so, would have been a great opportunity with the surrounding neighborhood. I would guess the inability/lack of desire from the city to calm the street traffic played a role?

Regardless of their intention for taking out the sidewalk there should be a requirement to replace it with a suitable alternative while under construction. ...

There is no way stadiums will do 50% capacity. Fans at games ...

Massing looks really good and design fits well with unmc buildings. The parking seems like an appropriate amount as well. Was hoping for some mixed use aspect to the project, but you can't win them all. Having the sidewalk wider and backed off the street will be a big win for the neighborhood.
