Re: Cloisters on the Platte
Kind of weird that people feel creeped out by this place. I think it's gorgeous and a nice addition to the metro. Then again, I'm Catholic so religious places don't bother me, I guess.

Re: STAR WARS vs STAR TREK
Definitely Star Wars for me. For the Star Wars movies, I think Empire Strikes Back is hands down the best. Greg Empire will never be topped, in my opinion. Of the non-original trilogy movies, I think Rogue 1 is the best. The sequels (episodes seven and eight) I liked when I initially saw them, but ...

Re: STAR WARS vs STAR TREK
I'm a Star Wars fan. Star Trek doesn't do anything for me. I was born in 1973. The original Star Wars was the very first movie I can remember seeing. A lot of other f/x movies at the time just stunk by comparison. It took the rest of the Hollywood film industry about 15 years to catch up to George L...

I will say this about the Vala family, they invest a lot back into the farm every single year so that there is always something new to come back to. I was talking to an employee last year about that and he claimed that the Vala's clear about $2 million every season and put nearly half of it into dev...

If you have kids, you should definitely go. I think the place is fantastic. When my wife and I moved to Omaha in 2011, we heard a lot about Vala's but never went, despite having three young kids. We had a pumpkin patch in California we loved to go to and figured Vala's would pale in comparison. Whic...

Re: Official: Gene Leahy Mall
There is very little flat space in the park for people to actualy “do” anything there. If you think about it, aside from the slides and the large steps, you don’t do much in the park besides passively meander through the paths and look at the water. And that's a nice option to have, for people who ...

I don't think Mike Riley is going to right this ship. But the coaching carousel hasn't worked for Nebraska, either. What if instead of firing Riley, we don't extend his contract (any more than it already has been), but make one addition to the contract. A $1 million bonus for every Top 10 recruiting...

Did Oregon decide to take a nap? This was simply a case of NU digging themselves too big of a hole.. But yet, they still almost crawled out of it.. If you're a Husker fan, you have hope. NU 45 ASU 17 Yes, Arkansas State is a decent Sun Belt team. They embarrassed Scott Frost in their bowl game to close out last season. Been to Colorado Springs probably 2 dozen times. Father-in-law lives there. Familiar enough with it. Not what I'd call a vibrant hub of urbanity, frankly. Certainly a pleasant enough city with some truly spectacular scenery, but Omaha's vibe is way better. I only read the first page of the thread. G...

Natural attrition will ultimately leave today's progressives in power by default. It's the way of things. Enjoy a last gasp of conservatism for the time being. Seriously, I would love if they would just take everything out of Old Mill except the new Ameritrade HQ and Christ Community Church, and put a little semi-grid (like Aksarben Village) in there, and just start fresh. I think everything but those two structures do clear out in piecemeal way at first,...

This is why I don't like Ameritrade's design sitting in Old Mill. The design looks more urban-orientated to me, more fitting for a grid, imo. I say build high density, urban style everywhere and anywhere. Who's to say that over the next few decades, Old Mill won't transform into an urban enclave? T...

^Interesting (about Millard's grid). I always kinda wondered why they put the streets at that angle. Along with Grand Island, some major cities that have downtown streets that angle 45-degrees off the main grid include Denver, Houston, Dallas, Portland, and Minneapolis. It's not necessarily an unco...

I'd rather see them go to the Old UP site (former Wallstreet tower) and combine it with a residential tower/parking garage to make enough income to make it happen. I heard Stothert on KFAB this morning. It sounds like LOT B in downtown is very much in play for HDR. It was one of 12 sites the city initially proposed to HDR. The issue with the initial site appears to be that HDR doesn't want the city to acquire any property on its behalf through imminent domain....
