Riding off into the sunset...
I know you've seen these before. Sometimes they seem to leave and then they come back. Other times they stay away forever. I first joined the Chamber board back in the 90's. I joined because I thought the board was a place for business people to share ideas and get help with business problems. I had...

They just going to trash the fireplace? I mean, it's bizarre....but still. Who wouldn't want a fireplace with a witch on a broom? Also, are they going to take the statue of the guy humping the dolphin to the dump too? The main thing I saw that was an aha moment was the basketball hoop in the garage....

Which is why the casinos in CB couldn't get any closer to Nebraska. I'm amazed that there was never one built in Carter Lake. The arguments against legalizing gambling are the dumbest things I've ever heard. Just look at the license plates in the casino parking lots! Quite a bit of revenue flowing across the river! East of 16th was pretty industrial. Plus, after the riots of the 60s the area was pretty rough. The Doubletree (which I believe was initially a Hilton) was built and/or financed by Brandeis in whole or in part, and they were looking at making the area from the Hilton to the Orpheum a semi self conta...

Someone wrote an interesting comment in the comment section of one of the articles: It was originally slated to be residential, the streets were already poured, but no houses built. Before all the development the view to and from the airport was pretty depressing. Visitors got that view. Surprised they're not bulldozing it for condos, they do that in every other corner of the city. It's on the Asarco location. They capped the soil & you can't breach the cap. It's full of lead. As for a restaurant succeeding it would have to be something amazing. Hard Rock maybe but I doubt it.

There was a story when Enron was about to move thousands of jobs to Houston. Mayor Mike Boyle flew down to Houston to meet with Ken Lay.
