Re: Omaha Eppley Airfield

KCI has a Delta Sky Club. It's pretty impressive. 11,200 square feet, outdoor lounges with great airport views. Delta flies to 9 airports from KCI. I don't know the total flights they have per day. Kind of hard to justify the expense but hey, who am I to argue?

It's tough when there is an 800 lb gorilla less than an hour up the road. And despite the (minor) clamoring for a new airport between Lincoln and Omaha the gorilla ain't goin anywhere.

Re: Omaha Eppley Airfield

There are lots of possibilities for further growth. The current cargo & freight area just north of the terminal could move and I have the space in mind. As far as parking and garages are concerned, and the terminal as well for that matter, there is plenty of space. I'm including a pic. Don't sho...

Re: College Baseball Hall of Fame

Just short of 40 miles from KCI in a glorified strip mall in suburban KC. Had Omaha stepped up it could have been near the CWS stadium. I doubt it would ever draw a million people a year in either city but give me a break. It could have joined with the Durham, hosted events, and been more than Mahom...

Re: Omaha Eppley Airfield

I can see both sides of the argument on the name change. I think what's more important is the look and feel of the new terminal and the growth that will come with it. As others have said, this is their first impression of Omaha. Yes, you can go crazy calling it Scooters International Airport at Epp...

Sounds like I'm not the only one who hates the idea of this 'me too', let's be an 'International' airport. I suspect even with the improved facilities and any International tourist destination flights, they would be seasonal at best. I've always actually liked retaining the historic 'airfield' name...

The only real gripe I've heard from Non Omahans (& of course some non non Omahans) is the food choices. When I lived in Omaha & flew in clients or whoever for my company most had a positive reaction to the speed they got through the airport. I took them out to eat in the Old Market or wherev...

It's interesting about the Eppley project. In my own opinion this is a game changer Omaha hasn't seen since the convention center/arena project. I know Mutual's building & the streetcar are big but Eppley is, as I say, a game changer. I don't even think it's about the money. And I think that's w...

Re: Omaha Eppley Airfield

The airport is named for Eugene C. Eppley, founder of the Eppley Hotel chain, from whose estate $1 million was used to ready the then-Omaha Municipal Airport for jet aircraft in 1959–60.[6] This was matched by the federal government and improvements were made to handle jets at the airport, which was...

Re: Omaha Eppley Airfield

As far as KC planning their new terminal for decades, the same can be said of Omaha. Obviously, they've mentioned this expansion has been worked on and planned for 30 years and that the original estimate of $600 dates back to 2013. KCI's really got going after 9/11. The set up of the previous 3 ter...

There was a time a while ago when OMA put 100 flights per day through the airport on a relatively regular basis. And WITHOUT the two extra gates Wow, I imagine they ran mostly small planes? That probably isn't viable anymore with labor costs? Actually I flew on 757s & 767s some of the time. The...

KC was planning their new terminal for decades. They didn't have enough cash to do it until some creative financing came through. They didn't time anything. As for the number of gates OMA has after this current construction project, with 22 gates they can move a lot of planes through. In addition, a...
