High gas prices represent a happy crisis because the higher prices soar the more obvious it becomes what a ridiculous transportation system we are stuck with. And that's partly what is needed to get people, en masse, to start demanding better options.

(and no, electric cars aren't the answer)

I wouldn't mind too much, either. Besides, I'm sure the Marriott Residence Inn will be sufficiently soul-less and corporate enough as to distinguish it from the Hotel Deco.

I was thinking that, too. Isn't that approximately where Orpheum Tower and Energy Plaza would be? My guess is that it is the Chicago architectural artist's generic interpretation of those structures. I mean, look how off the proportions of the First National tower are.

Right. But the phrase in question is "crowded and congested." Let's really think about that. Yes, Minneapolis has vibrant urban neighborhoods, as does Omaha. But in neither case would I classify neighborhoods as crowded and congested.
