I agree its ridiculously ugly...MTO wrote:I was going to vote for 3 but concede it'll be 2 (minus a floor). And I'm not normally picky but 2 looks terrible.

For Omaha no but those are about the height of Lincoln's future high rise.Joe_Sovereign wrote:Too much to hope for?

That is a goofy looking building.Brad wrote:Actually it will look like #2, but one story taller and obviously not on a corner.

I think they look awesome! The architecture isn't totally cutting edge, but its modern enough to fit into Omaha's skyline.

The Kiewit building looks pretty much done. Barriers down, sidewalks open and lights on inside.

I was going to snap a pic after the Creighton women's game today but I forgot. It looked good!iamjacobm wrote:The Kiewit building looks pretty much done. Barriers down, sidewalks open and lights on inside.

It appears on the webcam that the hotel portion has started site work. Permits say an 84,607 SF building.

Do we know the identity of the hotel, or the room count?

It will be a Cambria Suites, similar to this one but one floor taller.nativeomahan wrote:Do we know the identity of the hotel, or the room count?
Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
For some unfortunate reason, that Cambria reminds me of the Dino's Storage rendering. Maybe it is just the color...

Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
Not quite as bad as Dino, but it has that cliche' inverted L frame on the facade over the corner that you see on almost every design now. Dino is just down-right hideous.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.
...and then they were gone.

TIF request for the Cambria before planning board.

Still no details of what the Cambria is going to look like?
Do we even know the number of rooms or number of floors?

Looks a bit better than the photo posted earlier in the thread of a Cambria.

Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
You're being kind. This thing has all the imagination of a penitentiary. Compared with the initial renderings proposed for the Cuming Street area west of the CLink the end result makes Omaha appear boring, sleepy and unimaginative. What you now have on Cuming is ZERO sense of community and ZERO cohesive planning.TitosBuritoBarn wrote:Meh...

Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
Design aside, I think it will do a nice job of filling up the area. I think once this gets completed and both buildings are side by side it will look great over there.

Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
It's at least not suburban design like some of the hotels by it.

I'm definitely glad it's not the Orange and yellow monstrousity that was shown

Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
It is not the greatest design but filling up "The Yard" with another 5 story building is a good step forward.
This is much better than a 2 block surface parking lot.

My thoughts exactly when I saw the rendering.

The apartments look pretty much done from the outside. Barriers down, sidewalks done with landscaping in.
Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
Finally got downtown early enough in the morning to catch the Yard Apartments with sun on the north side!

Drove by earlier this week. Looks like the elevator shaft is about two floors high so far on the hotel.
Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
Elevator shafts topped out it appears. Should be the tallest building on the block and when they start with the wood construction it will go quick.Joe_Sovereign wrote:Drove by earlier this week. Looks like the elevator shaft is about two floors high so far on the hotel.

I think were going to look back in a year or two are really wish we would of had more retail along 14th. Missed our opportunity to create a focal street for the neighborhood.

Re: The Yard (15th & Cuming)
Ease is key at these 'connected' apartments, touted as the first of their kind in Omaha
A few pictures from the article:They say the complex is the metro area’s first apartment project to have a “fully integrated” smart home technology system wired during construction and operational in all 101 units.
“This comes with smart lights, outlets, thermostat, sensors, locks, dimmers, voice control and more.”
