300+ hotel rooms, 200 apartment units(with potentially 75+ more), 90K in retail, 500 parking stalls and potentially the first ground up office build in DTO since Gavilon with over $200 million in total investment?EricHaley wrote:They should call it The Bait & Switch District…

It was a joke people…
I'm not complaining. I was simply pointing out how it was scaled back quite a bit from what was originally presented. I'm happy enough with what we got.

One thing I am learning. Things rarely get scaled up.EricHaley wrote:It was a joke people…

I could be mistaken but I thought I heard Moylan state that the retail would be strictly restaurant and bars; hence the name, entertainment district.iamjacobm wrote:300+ hotel rooms, 200 apartment units(with potentially 75+ more), 90K in retail, 500 parking stalls and potentially the first ground up office build in DTO since Gavilon with over $200 million in total investment?EricHaley wrote:They should call it The Bait & Switch District…

POS gets lumped in with retail in real estate numbers.

Re: Official: Capitol District
I don't know. I'm trying to see the bright side of things here but the apartment building kind of bums me out. As presented in the original design, I'm sure it was more of a conceptual placeholder until some key decisions with financing and stuff were hammered out, but I wish they were able to keep more elements of the original design. Bleh.

Re: Official: Capitol District
Any idea how big the Plaza "Entertainment District" portion of this will be? It seems like it will be small if they do retail on 3 sides and taller buildings blocking the sun. I guess I originally envisioned this similar to the Railyard in Lincoln.

There's more room than you think in there.

Just thought I'd post some shots from a stroll to show another view of how the infill will look.
I think it is going to help the density feels around there.

Kinda wonder if the remaining buildings of the Capitol Development will need a tower crane, and if that one is simply being repositoned.Spatial77 wrote:Looks like the MCL tower crane is coming down today.

They took off the counterweights, but then put them back on. Were they just making some adjustments, or did their plans to take the crane down somehow get cancelled/delayed?MadMartin8 wrote:Kinda wonder if the remaining buildings of the Capitol Development will need a tower crane, and if that one is simply being repositoned.Spatial77 wrote:Looks like the MCL tower crane is coming down today.

Is it too late for surprise bonus height like the Chrysler Building?EricHaley wrote:

Re: Official: Capitol District
That would sure be exciting (but I know it's not going to happen)! I was initially a bit disappointed that the final product didn't quite match the original vision, but in the end, I really like the way this has turned out. I only wish it were in the cards for me to move down there!Athomsfere wrote:Is it too late for surprise bonus height like the Chrysler Building?EricHaley wrote:

Once the other buildings are complete, it's going to be completely unrecognizable (the view from 480 and from Capitol) from 3 years ago. Plus, other perspective views from/into DT, it will look more "full"Omaha Cowboy wrote:I've said for awhile now, this development will have more impact, visually, than many are willing to give it credit for..EricHaley wrote:Athomsfere wrote:That would sure be exciting (but I know it's not going to happen)! Looks like they have over 1/2 the glass installed on the 5th and 6th floors.

Meh, 26 or 32 or even 17 floors would look impressive not these 12 floor jokes.

Good to see, maybe it will be used for the office buildings, meaning they are going to start construction on those soon too. I was worried that we might have to wait a few years for more demand to be there.EricHaley wrote:Looks like they are about to put up another (orange) tower crane

Is this for the parking garage?

Re: Official: Capitol District
Could be but I wouldn't think they would need a tower crane to assemble a parking garage, plus it appears that the crane is on the southeast corner of the property, directly west of the hotel.choke wrote:EricHaley wrote:Looks like they are about to put up another (orange) tower crane
