Gosh, I had forgotten all about that hissy fit the newspaper had.

I read the Pinnacle contract and the price is not the actual price. They actually pay a discount now with a $200k/year bump in 10 years. If they have a high school championship it costs them an extra $20k/year. They also get 20% to 40% off the total if the arena does not hit certain attendance, event numbers and marketing spend with the Pinnacle name on it.

The contracts on these are 50 pages and more that writing a big check for your name on a building. If I remember right, Pinnacle got a street named after them, private entrance for members, suite with option to buy 150 tickets per event.

Not sure about the Pinnacle Deal, may be the Huskers said we can bring our own sponsors or something, but the Baxter Deal is exclusive.

UNO Partners With SAVOR for Arena Food Service

“SAVOR has extensive experience providing food service in venues such as Baxter Arena, and we are excited to bring their industry knowledge to bear to enhance the enjoyment of everyone who attends an event there,” said Trev Alberts, UNO’s Vice Chancellor of Athletics.

Really. Thanks didn't know that and a quick search for the SAVOR web site came up empty for me so I moved on.

Hoping for the best, but my only experience with SAVOR wasn't great. They run food service at McCormick Place in Chicago, where I attended a week-long Microsoft conference last month. The food -- breakfast and lunch each day -- was the absolute worst I've ever experienced at a large venue ever. That said, I understand arena concessions are certainly different than catering meals for a 20,000+ person event, so hopefully they're better at the concessions side of things.

Have you ever had Aramark? Because that is a competitor and I think you may find a worse company if you try them.

I think my only experience with Aramark was at Tower V (5th floor of Woodmen Tower), which was consistently average.

I was kind of hoping for an extension of UNO's catering department. They seemed to do a good job when I was a student there... the food court fare was good, and the sit-down meals for meetings, banquets, etc. were always done well. And UNO's Rice Krispies bars are unrivaled, even by Snap Crackle & Pop themselves! :D

I wonder why they didn't pick Levy Restaurants as they seem to do a pretty good job at TD Ameritrade and the CenturyLink.

They could probably build a Japanese rock garden in the Aksarben neighborhood, and I'm sure that someone would go to the news to complain about it:

I went on the "Last" construction tour yesterday. Next time I head in the Baxter will be done!

My Notes and Observations:
-Dasher Boards, Red kick Plates with a back cap on top of the boards.
-Scoreboard is a great size
-Black Ice Test is next week
-Seats are about 98% installed by my guess.
-LED Arena lights are great!

Does anyone know why this arena was set back so very far from the street, unlike the CenturyLink Center, or even the old Civic? I think this showed very poor planning.

This project looks even worse from the air than it does at ground level. No doubt it'll be a great home environment for UNO hockey though. Anybody know their tailgating policy? I haven't seen rules anywhere, but tailgating could really enhance the gameday experience when weather is decent.

I agree...I drove by in the daylight today for the first time in a long time and I think they could have made it much more impressive if the building was right on Center. It just looks like a regular suburban arena the way it is. The Centurylink looks much better for pedestrians. I know that atmosphere inside at the hockey games is going to be better but this appears like it may be a dead zone when there are not events going on. They really shut off the development on the south side of Center.
