Yes its in the Blackstone District, but its more of a business district rather than a redevelopment area.MTO wrote:Yes, is it inside of the redevelopment boundaries?

I've been here the whole time, just busy in the real world, lol! Â Well, I was working in Canada for the better part of last year, but still visiting Omaha one week a month. Â I hope to hang out on the forums a little more now though. Â It's fun to be in on more of what's going on around town.Brad wrote:Welcome back Seth. I am hoping it looks like Sullivan's when its done.OmahaJosh618 wrote:Anyone know what's going on in the building to the left of Iwen's? I know it's condemned, but I figured something would happen in the near future.
Also, I don't really mind Iwen's aluminum face on the building, but everything below needs to go.

Anyone know what's going in at the former barber school? North east corner of 38th and Farnam.

A partnership led by Jay Lund and Matt Dwyer purchased the northwest corner of 39th and Farnam Streets. They plan to build a restaurant and renovate a nondescript warehouse/showroom into retail space and a yoga studio with a new, historic-looking storefront.
They'll also convert a 101-year-old house, the former Katelman Antiques store, into small offices with a shared commercial kitchen.

This corner is going to rival 50th and Underwood before too long.
Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District
Incredible space we are about to gain here. Converting Farnam to 2 way is also in the city agenda tomorrow. Things should start moving very quickly in the spring.Garrett wrote:Rendering:

It's impressive to see how well redevelopment of this area is going. I hope we'll start seeing some reinvestment in the residential properties in the surrounding blocks now. The mix of Gold-Coast mansions, run-down apartment conversions, and bland 50's slip-ins is kind of a mess.
Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District
Sounds like the vote passes to make it two way.

Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District
Me again : ) Is there someone I could speak with or email with regarding details of the yoga studio development? I currently teach at YogaMed and will be picking up classes at the new Yoga Karma Omaha out west, but the fact that I live on 38th and Harney makes me very interested in supporting this new project anyway that I can. I've been living in the neighborhood over four years and it brings me joy to see things shaping up in the area. Thank you for your help, either email me or post what you can here please.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I would guess contacting Jay Lund or Matt Dwyer is a good place to start

102-old Omaha home being turned into startup space, offices
Silicon Prairie News wrote:Over the course of its 102-year existence, 144 S. 39th Street in Omaha's Blackstone neighborhood has seen four generations of a family and 36 years as an antique showroom. Soon it will become a workspace for tech entrepreneurs and other small businesses.
The home is a small piece of the larger neighborhood landscape being crafted by developers Jay Lund and Matt Dwyer of Green Slate Development, but aims to have a big impact on the city's startup community.
Among the other improvements to the intersection at 39th and Farnam streets, the pair is bringing in a high-end coffee shop, a Mexican restaurant, yoga studio, brewery and apartments above some of the businesses.

Minor detail, but the former Cheaters' building in the southeast corner has a notice in one of its windows that a liquor license is being sought.
Also, they've installed lamps on the wooden façade that were illuminated tonight. I don't have a picture, but they look pretty nice.

Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District
I drove by there yesterday or Wednesday and their parking lot was full of engineer/architect type of people looking like they were finalizing plans... I guess the parking lot is going. Isn't the present building two stories?
Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District
Pretty sure they want to bring the buildings out to the street and the very eastern end of the property will be a small park. Not sure what the floor plans will look like being one or two floors.

Getting more sidewalk-frontrd buildings along that area will really transform the feel of that strip. It's going to be cool to see this area continue to progress.
Re: Blackstone Business Improvement District
The two story building is going to have a patio out onto Farnam. They cut back a portion of the storefront to create a little square under the 2nd floor.
