Food vendor rig that will offer "Gourmet Waffle Sliders" is a few days away from their Kickstarter ending. I have seen the kitchen parked behind Scriptown for a while now.

Some solid Blackstone paintings are up on a couple buildings.

My favorite is "Welcome to West Omaha Circa 1915."

Katie's Greek restaurant is going to convert to become the third Feta's Greek restaurant. It will transition to another "fast casual" restaurant.

The owner said they should be up and running within a month.

I guess my info was a little off on the timeline. Feta's will be a great addition to the area.

I didn't have parking problems when I went there a couple times but have heard other people did, might be a good idea.

The lot behind Mula is actually pretty large. Never have trouble back there.

New Dundee Bank branch in Blackstone District will seek to preserve details of former McFoster's site

Cole Epley: World-Herald staff writer wrote:The Architectural Offices will lead the renovation. Dundee Bank plans to open in mid-2016. Also purchased were three condemned residential properties directly west of the planned bank branch property. Those properties will be demolished.

Curious what will happen to the land the houses sit on. Surface parking for the bank would be a disappointment with the momentum along Farnam.

Other than that this is another good investment. I did like how the article pointed out Premier and Security building branches in the area. Banks expanding and growing in East O when the trend is to disinvest in branch locations says a lot about the future of the area IMO.

So on top of the McFoster's building they have also acquired these properties.

This office building caddy corner for future expansion.

And these three homes will be torn down.

I wonder what the bank will do with the land after they demolish those three buildings. Perhaps a new residential building?

I bet the bank uses it all. Between a drive thru window, parking for the branch and an extension on the back of the building(maybe) I think they will need all that land.

15 total housing units to be demolished to make way for bank. Noted and removed from the map. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... sp=sharing
A new bank will be a nice addition to the area, hopefully they will also make loans for home improvements in that neighborhood.

I would have to read the article again, but, didn't it mention how much they have invested in the community already?

Coyote, I did not intend anything negative about the bank, I think there are a lot of homes in the area that could use fix it funds, hopefully the bank has a community reinvestment program. The houses that were chopped up into apartments in that block had nothing special about them so far as I can tell.

Dundee Bank has financed a lot of projects in Dundee and along Farnam. I think they had a hand in the Aksaben Place development as well. They will be great for the district.

Dundee Bank also offers a great renovation loan option. If you want to purchase an old house but it needs a lot of work (as most of them do) and you don't have the cash for all the work, you can lump the construction costs into your mortgage (as long as you don't go over the projected resale value). It's similar to the 203K program offered by the FHA, but a lot less cumbersome. It definitely makes rehab costs more manageable.
Thinking there's not a whole lot to say anymore now that people listen & she has to make sense.

I was at an event at the Durham several years ago and they said they have lots of photos pre-1930's or 1940's but then it really drops off.

Ok, thanks to Brad for excising the non Blackstone posts from this thread for us..., so back to real news...

I talked to Benson Brewery reps (head brewer) at the Great Nebraska Beer Fest yesterday... Their taproom/deli project is officially dead, they sold the building to a 'realtor', and it seems that North End is dead also, they still have 'first dibs' but it seems out of their hands right now.

Is Benson Brewery itself in any jeopardy?

I wonder if their expansion in their main location is going to happen as well, last time I checked there was no updates.

That's too bad. However the Blackstone is so hot right now, I'm sure it wont take long for that space to get snapped up. Assuming they don't ask to much for the spot.

16 apartments going into this building. They will take the awnings off the front and punch windows in the west side of it.

Finally took the awful awnings off this one. Already looks a lot better.

I like the way the rendering of the building at 41st & Harney makes it look like it floats on a country like windows backdrop. It completely ignores the surrounding building that it will be setting next to it including this 16 unit conversion. http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews ... =300%2C169

Yes I noticed that I saw that the web site says "for lease" it looked like commercial space leasing, not an apartment for lease site. Will look closer next time. I loved his reference in the Quartermaster property article about it being zombie proof. I think we need a thread on zombie proof sites in Omaha. Just in case!

Surly Chap Barbers adding online appointments, adding a fourth barber and extending their hours to 8-7 during the week. They are bumping the price though. A haircut there for $15 was a steal though.

This really is the perfect use for this structure. It's going to look so natural as a bank branch, I doubt those who don't know the history will have any idea it used to be a service station.

I do hope they make efficient use of the space the houses are on. It's probably just going to be parking, though, and with all the infill on existing surface parking down the street, it's not worth feeling sad.

Lazy-i.com mentioned today the rumored music venue slated for Blackstone. I would not be surprised at all, given the apparent rift between him and Saddle Creek, that this is a new venture backed by Conor Oberst and it will be at the Hotel Frank location.
