A little more info on the 39th and Farnam project.
Very cool, thanks for sharing. I really like how they have the facade of the new building styled to fit in with the older buildings on the block.

It sure has been amazing transition! Not to mention the rough crowd they had back in the cheaters days too...

Dan's a good friend of mine and I stopped in yesterday to see the place, and it looks AMAZING! If I were going to open a bar...the design, layout, etc. he's doing is exactly how I would do it. He's put in a lot of work into this place, and it looks really great. Kind of a vintage/art deco feel to it...super classy. I'm so excited for him to open back up!

That really has been a remarkable transformation! I remember driving past Cheaters (or Straight Shooters, I can't remember which order they came in) when I first visited Omaha in December 2009. It really did make that block look the ghetto.

Dan just posted on his FB page that Sullivan's grand opening will be on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. They're just wrapping up some finishing touches and awaiting their occupancy paperwork and Liquor License transfer.

Fun times!!!!

Photo 3 is really really cool. The rusty power line pole, the old style script in the window with the mid-century apartment building peaking from behind just give it an incredibly nostalgic feel.

When I processed those on Saturday, I processed one in black and white, but it didn't have the same pop that the color photo did.

Midtown bar will open in new location Friday

Andrea Kszystyniak:World-Herald staff writer wrote: Owner Dan Houlihan said the space has been completely renovated. The building was gutted and remodeled top to bottom. Houlihan held on to the shuffleboard table from The 49'r Lounge and restored it for the new bar. The bar will open Friday at 7 p.m. and will remain open till 2 a.m. Going forward, the bar will be open 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday.

Not sure if this should go here or in the Dinning/Culture/Entertainment section but we stopped by last Sat to check out the new place and it was really nice. They had a pretty good selection of beer on tap and bottle, free popcorn, and was pretty busy. The decor on the walls looked like it was from the 20's, pics of bare knuckled boxers on the walls, which gave the place a pretty interesting vibe. We will definitely be going back.

Nice! I need to make a point to head there soon.

Also no bike racks on this corner is going to be an issue when these other places come online.

Stopped by there this past weekend for a few drinks. 1st off I walked there, very happy to be able to do that comfortably now. The bar was really big which was nice, lots of seats. The decor was pretty cool, but nothing outlandish. The beer selection was good enough for a watering hole, but you wont broaden your untappd lineup; Boulevard, Ranger, Lucky Bucket ect. I was there on a Saturday night and it wasn't overcrowded which was a nice change from the Benson/Old Market/Dundee offerings most weekends. Nice addition.

It turns out the cut out of the two story building wasn't for Mula. It is a coffee shop Archetype Coffee.

And the inside has a ton of exposed masonry.

Found another one!

16 apartments going into this building. They will take the awnings off the front and punch windows in the west side of it.

Cool. Having this area take off will really help bridge the gap between Midtown Crossing and UNMC.

I've never understood why a lot of projects tend to include windows on the side of a building that currently overlooks a surface lot. The current trend is to build new construction on surface lots. Unless they intend to keep that lot for apartment residents, they may end up with a bunch of windows overlooking a narrow ally and those units could be hard to rent.

16 units between 360 and 840 sq ft. Even though they are exempt from off street parking codes, they will try to secure parking leases from area lots...

If done right even the smallest studio is liveable.. heck in NYC the average Studio in Brooklyn is around that big but people use the wall height for shelving to keep everything on.. but yes once you get all of your furniture in there there is not much room to even walk haha.

For the right price that space will be leased. A lot of people have a ton of junk they don't really need.

According to Restoration Exchange Brad Iwen of Iwen Exposures has bought the church that used to be Pella Lutheran on 41st and Farnam and is turning it into an event space. Apparently the church held their last service in April.

I did some facebook digging for that. They said they had a dwindling congregation and just couldn't keep the doors open.

Very glad someone already invested in the neighborhood got a hold of the building and is putting it to good use though!

When we drove by both MULA and Farnam House late Saturday night I noted that both businesses had chairs up atop the dining tables, as one would do after closing hour of an otherwise open for business restaurant.
