More great news for Blackstone. Black Squirrel Tattoo is currently updating their facade, taking off the awful white mess it had and re-bricking the building to better fit into the district.

Looks like Sullivan's could be adding outdoor seating. From the agenda:
“Sullivan’s Bar”, 3929 Farnam Street, requests permission for an addition to their present Class “C” Liquor License location of an outdoor area approx. 41’ x 17’ to the south.

That was mentioned in the OWH article yesterday as well. However, I don't remember any details in the article.

Noah Mock, currently the head bartender at J. Coco, will open Nite Owl at 3902 Farnam St. with his wife, Katie Timperley Mock. The bar will be focused on creating affordable drinks as well as providing late-night food.

With the mention if the 600 sf patio I would guess it would be the east portion of that project.

With an address like 3902 Farnam that was my original guess, but when looking that up it lists the house described as 144 S. 39th St. LLC.

A 6' 'privacy fence' ?
Oh, to the south. That might be a nice outdoor patio...

This signage in this rendering sure looks like it would fit for a place called "Nite Owl"

Noticed the set of row houses on 40th and Harney were being gutted the other day, at least the eastern most unit was.

SW corner of 39th/Farnam - and what's up next to Iwen?

Post by DaveM »

Looks like Greenslate is trying to turn that building around - wonder if the gyro place will be around in the future.

The building just east of Iwen - does it look worse now than it has it the past? What's going on there?

The building next to Iwen was mentioned as a possible wine bar in the KC article about Omaha this weekend.

Welcome to eOmahaForums Dave!

1. I see that 4001 Farnam LLC (4004 Harney) was bought by Greenslate, but don't see any progress right now, do you know something?
2. Do you mean Katie's Greek Restaurant?
3. Next to Iwen, so you mean 3921 Farnam owned by Urban Drift LLC, that has that 'danger/closed' sign?

Most of the bays in 4001 have become recently empty - except for the tattoo shop and Victor's Gyros. And yes, the Urban Drift location is what I was referring to.

Thanks!

This never got posted.

http://www.omaha.com/money/pella-luther ... s.facebook
The Pella at Blackstone essentially will become part of the western gateway into the evolving Blackstone Business District, a historical commercial strip that has been transforming the last several years as investors and merchants like Brad Iwen started to rehabilitate rundown buildings for shops and restaurants and housing.

Iwen, the district’s president, said he’s long had his eye on the brick church with Gothic architectural and stone detailing, as he drives by several times a day to and from his photography studio at 3925 Farnam St.

When he heard the shrinking Lutheran congregation was about to close the doors, he seized the opportunity to bid on the 13,000-square-foot brick structure. Iwen feared it might otherwise be knocked down.
Kobs said the firm wanted to catch the revitalization wave in the Blackstone district, especially as Farnam Street from 36th to 42nd is expected to turn into a two-way street. Merchants and investors who have fought for that to happen believe the easier access will bring even more people to the area, which has as its western neighbor the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus.

The lower floor of Pella is to become Iwen Exposures. Iwen said he plans to rent out his current photography studio, which is a short walk away.
So Iwen is leaving that storefront. I wonder if they will remove the metal for a new prospective tenant or leave it up?

Mention in this month's planning department agenda about TIF for something southwest of 40th and Farnam. Would most likely include most if not all of those storefronts.

Drove by today and the cinder blocks at the Katelman project are up. What looks great is they are keeping a nice old tree on the corner.

Spoke to someone close to the project, he says they are thinking about taking that down before trying to lease it.

I think Greenslate bought up that entire set of storefronts and is going to rehab them. Too bad we lose an interesting restaurant though. Kind of seems off that a business that was here for years before the redevelopment started gets forced out when it is just now turning a corner.

Does anyone know what's going to happen to any of those multi-unit houses just west of mcfosters? Some dirty hippy that works there had asked, she said one of them is now empty.

This office building on Farnam has sold. Will be interesting to see what happens here, the building is over 22K SF which isn't anything to sneeze at.

I really like that building. It has a nice, clean 1930s streamlined Art Deco look and materials.

That would be a shame to lose it to surface parking! That area to the west is dominated by cancerous surface lots already. Hope they find a cure.

I heard that UNMC wanted the Pella Lutheran lot for parking, they were going to tear down the Church, but then Brad Iwen Photography got in a 'bidding war' with them and won.
